Pick the fuel and the control under Ignition — 39,000 BTU/hr on natural gas or propane, a self-powered millivolt standing pilot with the on/off switch log, the RCB on/off remote or the TSST thermostatic remote — with no chimney and no household power, from $1,788. It needs a two-sided fireplace or vent-free firebox at least 32" wide, 19" deep and 21-1/2" high; because a see-through opens into two rooms, both faces are front faces and each one has to measure the full 32" wide. It carries a 5-year warranty on burner and logs.
Choose it if your fireplace is open on two faces — a see-through masonry or factory-built fireplace, or Monessen's Lo-Rider See-Through vent-free firebox — and you want a log stack that looks right from both rooms rather than a single-sided set turned sideways. The opening needs 32" of width, 19" of depth and 21-1/2" of height, 42" to the ceiling and 9" to a sidewall — and since a see-through has a front on each side, Monessen's firebox table asks for the 32" of width at both faces, not just the one you measure from. Pick the burner with the switch log, an on/off remote or a thermostatic remote; every choice includes the burner.
It is not right for a single-sided fireplace — the stack is built and placed for an opening finished on two faces. It is not a primary heat source, it cannot go in a bedroom or bathroom, and a fireplace shallower than 19", a glass-door frame taller than 3" in front of the logs, less than 42" to the ceiling or 9" to a sidewall, or doors that will be closed while it runs all rule it out. The logs fit the Natural Blaze See-Through burner only — they are not a replacement set for any other burner.
Specifications
Minimum fireplace size with the burner and logs is 32" wide, 19" deep and 21-1/2" high, and because a see-through is open on two sides Monessen's minimum-firebox table prints the same 32" for the rear width as for the front — both faces are fronts, so both must clear 32". A glass-door frame up to 3" tall in front of the logs raises the depth to 24"; anything taller is not recommended. Sidewalls stay 9" from the opening, the ceiling 42" above it, and the facing above the opening must be non-combustible — 12" or more of it, or 8" to 12" with the optional adjustable hood. A combustible mantel needs 14" of clearance at 3" deep up to 23" at 12" deep (8" to 17" with the hood). Combustible flooring other than carpet or vinyl may run to the opening; carpet or vinyl stays 14" back. The burner draws 39,000 BTU/hr on either gas — 26,000 minimum on natural gas, 30,000 on propane — on standard gas pressures, 5" to 10" w.c. inlet for natural gas and 11" to 13" for propane, with no 120 V connection.

Which Ignition choice should I pick, and what does each remote do?
All three burner choices light the same millivolt standing pilot with a piezo igniter and need no electricity; they differ in how you run it. "Manual" gives you the decorative on/off switch log that ships with the burner; "On/Off Remote" adds the RCB battery remote; "Thermostatic Remote" adds the TSST touch-screen thermostat remote so the set holds a room temperature — vent-free installations only, because a thermostat is not allowed when the set is run vented. The burner itself is the same on all three, and it comes with the logs whichever you pick.
What size see-through fireplace does it need, and which Monessen firebox takes it?
The opening must be at least 32" wide, 19" deep and 21-1/2" high. A see-through faces two rooms, so treat both sides as the front — Monessen's minimum-firebox table lists a 32" rear width next to the 32" front width, and the opening has to make that 32" on each face. If a glass-door frame or a recessed hearth stands up to 3" in front of the logs, plan on 24" of depth instead; anything taller than 3" is not recommended. Monessen pairs the set with its Lo-Rider See-Through vent-free firebox (LSTF36-B), whose price-book page lists this log set as the piece that completes it; in any vent-free firebox the firebox maker's own clearances govern.
Does it need a chimney, a vent or an outside air kit?
No — the set is an unvented room heater that burns room air, so it needs no flue. Vent-free, it goes into a solid-fuel masonry fireplace, a UL127 factory-built fireplace or a listed vent-free firebox. It is also listed, in the U.S., as a vented gas log set, so if your fireplace cannot meet the vent-free wall or mantel clearances you install and run it with the chimney and damper open instead — but the vented mode is allowed only in a solid-fuel masonry or UL127 factory-built fireplace, not in a vent-free firebox, the damper stays open to the free area in the manual's tables, and a thermostat is not allowed. Either way the room must give it 50 cubic feet of volume for every 1,000 BTU/hr of gas appliances in it — 1,950 cubic feet for this burner alone.
How close can a mantel or the ceiling be?
The clearances are the same for every one on this page. The ceiling must be at least 42" above the top of the fireplace opening and sidewalls at least 9" from its sides; the wall directly above the opening must be non-combustible for at least 12" (8" to 12" is allowed with the CABL adjustable hood, less than 8" is not allowed). A combustible mantel needs 14" above the opening if it is 3" deep, 17" at 6", 20" at 9" and 23" at 12" — the hood cuts each of those by 6". If your fireplace cannot meet them, the set must be installed and run as a vented appliance with the damper open. In a Monessen vent-free firebox, the firebox's own clearances apply.
Will it work in a power outage?
Yes, on every one — nothing on this page uses house current. The burner's millivolt valve is powered by its own thermopile and the standing pilot lights from the piezo igniter, so the switch log and the battery-powered RCB or TSST remote keep running the fire when the lights are out.
Does buying from The Torch Guys affect my Monessen warranty?
No. HHT's warranty covers Monessen products bought through an authorized dealer, and The Torch Guys is one — we register the set and, if you ever need to claim, we deal with the manufacturer on your behalf. The vent-free burner and logs carry 5 years on parts, valves, pilots and remotes 2 years, purchased accessories 1 year, and the coverage transfers to a later owner of the home. Keep your invoice and the model number from the burner's rating plate; we hold the rest on file.
