Superior WCT6920 EPA-Certified High-Efficiency Wood Burning Fireplace

An EPA-certified, Washington State approved wood-burning fireplace — 1.9 g/hr on cordwood, 15,277 to 55,597 BTU/hr at 72% EPA-estimated efficiency. The Superior WCT6920 is a closed-combustion circulating firebox in a traditional arch front design: stacked textured refractories, a decorative cast iron log retainer, a factory-installed 200 cfm heat-activated blower, and the mandatory outside air kit already in the box. from $5,249.

Choose the WCT6920 if you want the traditional arched look with real wood heat — the arch facade and arched steel or cast iron doors are ordered with it — in a firebox that frames into the same 37-1/4" x 56" rough opening as the WCT4920 and heats up to 1,500 square feet as a supplemental heater. Washington State approval makes it the pick where the state's stricter emissions rules apply.

It is not right if you cannot run a full vertical chimney — this firebox needs a listed 6" wood-burning chimney at least 12 feet tall that terminates above the roof, not a wall vent. If there is no chimney path, a direct-vent gas fireplace such as Superior's DRT3000 series vents straight out a side wall and is the one to look at instead.

Specifications

Frame a rough opening 37-1/4" wide by 56" high, 25-1/8" deep for a flush install — framing dimensions include sheathing. Keep side walls 24" clear of the firebox opening, hold any mantel to non-combustible material at least 39-1/2" above the base, and cover the floor in front with non-combustible material sized per Figure 8 on page 9 of the installation manual. It vents on 6" IHP Snap-Pak chimney in the US — minimum 12 feet, 2" clearance, rain cap on top — and can also connect to a masonry chimney with a 2100°F-rated stainless liner.

How the WCT6920 compares to the other Superior wood fireplaces

The WCT4920 shares this firebox platform and output but wears smooth refractories, a steel log retainer and a wider choice of fronts — square and Clean Face as well as arched — at from $5,099 against this model's from $5,249. The WCT6940 at from $7,469 is the big catalytic unit: a 4.0 cubic foot firebox, 30" logs and up to 80,000 BTU/hr on a 7" chimney, but it is not approved for manufactured homes — this WCT6920 and the WCT4920 are.

What chimney does it need?

A 6" diameter listed wood-burning chimney on every configuration — IHP Snap-Pak in the United States, Secure Temp ASHT+/S2100+ or DuraVent DuraTech in Canada. Plan a minimum of 12 feet of chimney not counting the fireplace (15 feet if the run uses offsets), add 18" per 2,000 feet of elevation, keep 2" clearance to combustibles, and finish with a rain cap. It can also tie into a new or existing masonry chimney with a 2100°F-rated stainless liner. Send us your roof height and we will size the run with you.

Will it heat if the power goes out?

Yes — every configuration burns wood with no electricity at all; the fire needs no power. Electricity runs only the 200 cfm circulating blower, which is on a 120 V connection and will not spin in an outage; the fireplace still radiates heat through the ceramic glass while the power is off.

Can I install it in a mobile or manufactured home?

Yes — the WCT6920 is approved for mobile and manufactured homes with solid fuel only. The installation must follow HUD requirements in the US (CMHC in Canada), the fireplace must be fastened to the floor with its tabs, and it may not be installed in a sleeping room.

Can it heat more than one room?

Yes — on its own the blower circulates room air, and two ducting options extend the reach: the HeatFlo convection kit shares warm air by natural convection up to 10 feet into one or two adjacent rooms, and the thermostatic forced air kit pushes heat further. Both are below-the-cart accessories; note the book's caveat that the forced air kit was not part of the EPA emissions testing, so it cannot be sold as EPA certified.

What wood should I burn, and how long does a load last?

Dry, seasoned natural cordwood only — 15-20% moisture is the target, and hardwoods burn longest; treated wood, plywood, trash and coal are prohibited. Loaded and set to the recommended medium combustion it reloads about every 3-4 hours; run slow overnight it goes 6-8 hours. It is a supplemental heater, so keep another heat source for the house.

How does the warranty work if something goes wrong?

Superior warrants the fireplace — 20 years limited on the body, firebox and ceramic glass — and The Torch Guys handles it for you: we register the appliance and, if you ever need to claim, we deal with the manufacturer on your behalf rather than handing you a phone number. Keep your invoice and the model number; we hold the rest on file.

Inspect the shipment before signing and note any damage on the delivery receipt — freight damage claims must be reported within 5 business days. Most items can be returned within 30 days of delivery as long as the product hasn't been installed, is in the same condition you received it, and all original packaging is intact. Return shipping and the original outbound freight cost are deducted from the refund, and a manufacturer restocking fee may apply. Custom and made-to-order products are final sale. Cancellations are free any time before shipment (custom orders excepted). Threshold and white-glove delivery upgrades are available — ask our team.

Warranty

In the unlikely event your product experiences a defect, our technical team will guide you through the manufacturer’s warranty process. Here is a general outline of what to expect.

Due to the technical nature of our products, the manufacturer must perform troubleshooting to process a warranty claim. Your installer will need to troubleshoot the problem on-site while working in tandem with our technical team. If troubleshooting leads to what The Torch Guys deems as a defective part, we will submit a warranty claim to the manufacturer on your behalf. Before we submit the claim, we will ask you to review the terms and confirm your consent to proceed.

Once the claim is submitted, the manufacturer will review it and either approve or deny it. If they have all the information and accept the claim, your warranty replacement part(s) will begin processing for shipment. If, for any reason, the claim is denied or we need more information, we will notify you as soon as possible.

All warranties are processed as exchanges. You can expect to receive a prepaid return label for the defective part(s), which must be returned within 30 days of receiving the warranty replacement(s).

Warranty claims can take anywhere from 1-4 weeks to process, depending on the season. Given the length of time claims can take, we recommend you fire up your unit in late summer/early fall to ensure your existing fireplace is in good working order for the winter season.
