The Napoleon Rosedale 3 is a direct vent gas insert that slides into an existing wood-burning fireplace and vents through two 3" liners run up the chimney. It is rated 24,000 BTU/hr on natural gas, or 22,000 on propane with Napoleon's conversion kit, through a 25" by 12-13/16" view, and its 7-day millivolt pilot needs no household power, so the fire keeps running in an outage. The F60 thermostatic remote, a safety barrier screen and a 5 mm ceramic glass door are included — from $3,149 before the log kit you choose above. It needs a fireplace opening at least 29" wide, 21" high and 15" deep, and carries Napoleon's President's Lifetime Limited Warranty.
Choose it if you want to turn an old wood-burning fireplace into a gas fire you run from the couch, with Birch or Oak PHAZER logs, an optional MIRRO-FLAME porcelain, Newport or Westminster brick, or Black Illusion Glass interior, and heat that does not stop when the power does. It is approved for bedrooms and bathrooms and certified for mobile homes, and a standard heat-circulating blower kit is available as an option.
It is not right for you if you are building a new fireplace. The Rosedale 3 turns an old wood-burning fireplace into a gas fire you run from the couch, and it keeps working when the power goes out.
The insert is 29-7/16" wide, 20-5/16" high and 15-7/16" deep and needs a fireplace opening of at least 29" by 21" by 15" deep; the backerplate covers the gap around it, from the Large 3-Sided at 25-1/4" by 40-1/4" up to the Trimmable at 40" by 50", cut to fit. A combustible mantel up to 2" deep sits at least 22" above the top of the insert, and deeper mantels sit higher — the heights are charted on page 14 of the installation manual. Combustible trim standing out on either side keeps 1" from the edge of the backerplate, the facing in front is non-combustible, and furniture stays at least 48" from the front. The two 3" liners run 10 to 45 ft, and the chimney flue must be at least 6" round.
It vents through your existing chimney on two 3" flexible liners, one for intake and one for exhaust, each running unbroken from the insert to the top of the chimney — 10 ft minimum, 45 ft maximum. Napoleon's 3" liner kits come in 20, 25, 35 and 45 ft lengths, and the chimney flue must be at least 6" round. The liners are ordered separately and sized to your chimney (see pg 12 in the installation manual).
It fits a vented, non-combustible wood-burning fireplace — masonry or factory-built — with an opening at least 29" wide, 21" high and 15" deep. The fireplace is cleaned and sound, its damper is removed or locked open, and its doors, screen and grate can come out; once converted it is for the gas insert only. In front it needs a non-combustible hearth at least 12" deep, or the insert raised 4" or set on Napoleon's riser box over a combustible one.
Yes. The 7-day millivolt pilot powers the fire without household electricity, and the remote's receiver runs on four AA batteries as a backup, so you can still turn it on and set the thermostat when the power is out. The pilot shuts itself off after a week with no call for heat and is relit at the insert. The optional blower needs household power.
A combustible mantel up to 2" deep sits at least 22" above the top of the insert, and deeper mantels sit higher — the heights are charted on page 14 of the installation manual. The wall above gets hot, and without provision for that heat it is unsuitable for a TV or other heat-sensitive objects; a mantel between the insert and your electronics reduces the direct heat on them.
It runs on natural gas or propane from a 1/2" gas line to the insert's flex connector and shut-off valve — natural gas at 4.5" to 7" w.c. inlet pressure, propane at 11" to 13" w.c. It ships for natural gas and converts to propane with Napoleon's kit W175-0850, fitted by a qualified installer; on propane it is rated 22,000 BTU/hr. It is approved for bedrooms, bathrooms and mobile homes where local codes allow, and rated to 4,500 ft.
No. The Torch Guys is an authorized Napoleon dealer, so the President's Lifetime Limited Warranty applies in full, and we file claims with Napoleon for you. The combustion chamber, heat exchanger, burner, logs, embers, ceramic glass and porcelain parts are covered for as long as you own the insert — parts free for the first 10 years, then at half of retail; blowers, valves, remotes and other electrical parts and the labour are covered for the first year. Coverage starts on the installation date.
