The Napoleon Ascent X 42" is a direct vent gas fireplace that comes ready to enjoy: a hand-painted split oak log set with glowing embers and ember-bed lighting, a heat-circulating blower, the F60 thermostatic remote and a premium safety barrier are all included, from $3,799. It is rated 30,000 BTU/hr on natural gas or propane with pilot-on-demand electronic ignition, vents through a 5" / 8" pipe off the top or the back, frames into a 42-1/2" wide, 18-9/16" deep opening, and carries Napoleon's President's Lifetime Limited Warranty.
Choose the 42" if you want a wider traditional oak log fire with the blower and remote already in the box, matte black interior panels as standard, and the option to dress the firebox with brick or reflective porcelain panels. It is approved for bedrooms and bathrooms and certified for mobile homes.
It is not right for you if you want a contemporary linear flame. The Ascent X is a traditional oak log fire with the blower and remote already in the box.
The framed opening is 42-1/2" wide, 41-1/8" high and 18-9/16" deep, and the fireplace itself measures 42" wide by 34-5/8" high by 18-5/16" deep. The enclosure needs at least 52-5/8" of height above the base. The face is finished in non-combustible material over the facing board that comes with the fireplace, and the finish may stand out up to 4" from the safety barrier. Mantel clearances depend on the mantel's depth and are charted in section 10.5 on page 50 of the installation manual. The vent pipe needs 3" above and 1" at the sides of horizontal runs and 1" around vertical runs, and the fireplace takes a 1/2" gas line with a flex connector (3/8" without one) and a hard-wired 115 V supply.
Both Ascent X sizes include the split oak log set, ember-bed lighting, the blower, the F60 remote and the safety barrier. The 42" is rated 30,000 BTU/hr, vents on a 5" / 8" pipe and frames into a 42-1/2" wide opening, from $3,799; the 36" is rated 26,000 BTU/hr on natural gas, vents on a 4" / 7" pipe and frames into a 35-1/2" opening.
It is a direct vent fireplace on a 5" exhaust / 8" air-intake pipe, off the top or the back of the unit, run out through a wall or up through the roof: up to 20 ft horizontally and up to 40 ft vertically. Use one brand of pipe throughout — Napoleon (Wolf Steel), Metal-Fab, BDM, Simpson Dura-Vent or Selkirk Direct Temp — and do not mix rigid and flexible pipe. Napoleon's wall terminals are the GD422-1, GD422R-2 and ST58U-1, with roof kits for pitched and flat roofs. The vent run and termination are ordered separately and sized to your installation; the insulated sleeve for a rear-vent run comes with the fireplace, and the outside terminal clearances are listed on page 17 of the installation manual. A power vent kit can be used on a top-vent installation.
Yes, with planning. Napoleon draws the TV placements above the Ascent X 42" — flush, recessed and partially recessed, with or without a mantel — in section 10.6 on page 51 of the installation manual, and recommends the optional Universal Heat Management kit for any TV above the fireplace; some of those placements are not acceptable unless it is installed. The kit also lowers the temperature above the fireplace and reduces the mantel clearances charted on page 50. It goes in with the fireplace, on a top-vent installation. Always stay within your TV maker's own temperature limits.
Indoors, including bedrooms, bathrooms and bed-sitting rooms, and it is certified for mobile and manufactured homes where local codes allow (fastened in place). It is rated to 4,500 ft, with the input reduced above that. Keep furniture and other objects at least 48" from the front, and do not run it below freezing.
Yes. The pilot-on-demand ignition can run from a USB power bank (not included) plugged into the control board in place of its power supply, so the fireplace still lights when the power is out.
A natural gas or propane line to the fireplace's manual shut-off valve (1/2" if it is fitted with a flex connector, 3/8" without one), connected and tested before the wall is finished — natural gas at 4.5" to 7" w.c. inlet pressure, propane at 11" to 13" w.c. Electrically it is hard-wired to a grounded 115 V, 60 Hz supply. It can be converted between natural gas and propane with Napoleon's certified conversion kit.
No. The Torch Guys is an authorized Napoleon dealer, so the President's Lifetime Limited Warranty applies in full, and we file claims with Napoleon for you. The firebox, burner, PHAZER logs and embers and the ceramic glass (against heat breakage) are covered for as long as you own the fireplace — parts free for the first 10 years, then at half of retail; blowers, valves, remotes and other electrical parts and the labour are covered for the first year. Coverage starts on the installation date.
