30,000 BTU/hr input from an insert 28-15/16" wide that slides into an existing wood-burning fireplace and vents up the chimney on two 3" liners. The Napoleon Oakville X3 GDIX3 is a direct vent gas insert for natural gas or propane, with a split oak PHAZER log set, 5 mm ceramic glass, a heat-circulating blower, a Night Light, a Proflame 2 remote and eFIRE app control, from $3,889, covered by Napoleon's President's Limited Lifetime Warranty.
Choose the Oakville X3 if you want to turn an old wood-burning fireplace into a gas fire you run from a remote or your phone: it fits an opening 29" wide, 21" high and 17-1/8" deep, vents up the existing chimney on two 3" liners, and comes with its logs, blower, Night Light and remote. Pick the reflective porcelain or one of two brick panels, and finish the opening with a faceplate, a backerplate or the cast iron surround.
It is not right for you if you are building a new fireplace. The X3 turns an old wood-burning fireplace into a gas fire that vents up the existing chimney, with its logs, blower, Night Light and remote in the box.
The Oakville X3 is 28-15/16" wide, 20-1/2" high and 17-1/8" deep, and needs a fireplace opening at least 29" wide, 21" high and 17-1/8" deep with a chimney flue of 6" or more. A non-combustible hearth must reach 12" in front of it; on a combustible hearth the insert is raised 4" or set on a riser box. A combustible mantel projecting up to 3" sits at least 12" above the top of the insert, and deeper mantels need more height — see the mantel chart in section 3.1 on page 15 of the installation manual. Furniture stays 48" from the front. The two 3" liners run 10 to 45 ft.
The Oakville X4 is the larger insert in the same series — 40,000 BTU/hr input on natural gas against the X3's 30,000, 34-1/8" wide against 28-15/16", with split flow to run one burner or both. Both come with split oak logs, a blower, a Night Light, the Proflame 2 remote and eFIRE app control, and both vent on two 3" liners. The X3 starts from $3,889; the X4 starts from $4,239. Pick the X3 for a fireplace opening under 34-1/4" wide, or when you want the cast iron surround, which is made for the X3.
The venting is sold separately. The X3 vents up your existing chimney through two 3" flexible liners, one for intake and one for exhaust, run continuously from the insert to the top of the chimney — 10 ft minimum and 45 ft maximum. Napoleon's 3" liner kits come in 20, 25, 35 and 45 ft lengths (GDI-320KT, GDI-325KT, GDI-335KT and GDI-345KT). We can put the vent package together for your chimney.
It fits if your fireplace is a vented, non-combustible wood-burning fireplace — masonry or factory-built — with an opening at least 29" wide, 21" high and 17-1/8" deep and a chimney flue of at least 6" round. The insert itself is 28-15/16" wide, 20-1/2" high and 17-1/8" deep. The damper is removed or locked open, and you need a non-combustible hearth reaching 12" in front, or the insert raised 4" or set on a riser box.
Yes. A combustible mantel that projects up to 3" from the wall sits at least 12" above the top of the insert, and a deeper mantel has to sit higher — the mantel clearance chart is in section 3.1 on page 15 of the installation manual. Keep furniture and drapes 48" from the front of the insert.
Yes. The X3 has a built-in Bluetooth module for Napoleon's eFIRE app, which turns it on and off and sets the flame, lights and blower from your phone. The included Proflame 2 remote does the same and can always turn the insert off. If the power goes out, four AA batteries keep the flame working; the blower and Night Light wait for power to return.
Yes to both. It is approved for bedroom, bathroom and bed-sitting room installations, and for a permanently located manufactured (mobile) home where local codes allow.
No. Napoleon's President's Limited Lifetime Warranty covers the original purchaser who buys through an authorized Napoleon dealer and has the insert installed by a licensed, qualified installer; there is nothing to register, so keep your proof of purchase with the model and serial number. It covers the combustion chamber, heat exchanger, burner, logs and embers, ceramic glass (thermal breakage) and porcelain parts for as long as you own the insert, electrical and wearing parts for one year, and labour for the first year. The Torch Guys will help you with any claim.
