20,000 BTU/hr input and 14,000 BTU/hr output from a cast-iron stove 19-1/4" wide, 25-3/8" high and 18-1/2" deep. The Napoleon Arlington GDS20 is a metallic black direct vent gas stove for natural gas or propane, with a PHAZER log set on a fibre burner, a porcelain reflective panel, a safety screen, millivolt or electronic ignition and a 45° top vent on 4" / 7" pipe, from $3,039, covered by Napoleon's President's Limited Lifetime Warranty.
Choose the Arlington if you want a traditional cast-iron stove for a small room: it is 19-1/4" wide and 18-1/2" deep, and it is approved for bedrooms, bathrooms, closets and recessed installations as well as, on natural gas, permanently located manufactured homes. Its 45° top exit lets the vent go out through a wall, up through the roof, or up a masonry chimney with a co-linear liner.
It is not right for you if you want a large stove for a great room. The Arlington is a compact 19-1/4" cast-iron stove, approved for bedrooms, bathrooms and even closets.
The Arlington is 19-1/4" wide, 25-3/8" high and 18-1/2" deep. Keep 2" to a combustible back wall (5" if you add the blower), 2" in a 45° corner and 48" from the top of the stove to the ceiling; the side-wall clearance is in section 3.9 on page 24 of the installation manual. Furniture stays 48" from the front. On wood flooring it needs nothing underneath; on carpet, vinyl tile or another combustible floor it sits on a metal or wood panel the full width and depth of the stove. The vent pipe is 4" exhaust inside 7" intake, up to 20 ft horizontally or 40 ft vertically, and keeps 1" at the sides and bottom and 2" on top of horizontal runs, 1" all round on vertical runs.
Next up from the Arlington is the Bayfield GDS25, Napoleon's next direct vent stove up, in the same metallic black with the same 45° 4" / 7" venting — up to 24,500 BTU/hr against the Arlington's 20,000, with accent lights and a Proflame II remote included. The Arlington starts from $3,039; the Bayfield starts from $4,429. Pick the Arlington for the smaller room, or when you would rather choose millivolt ignition and add a remote only if you want one.
The vent pipe and termination are sold separately; the stove ships with the firestop for a horizontal wall run. It vents through 4" exhaust / 7" intake coaxial direct vent pipe from a 45° top exit — out through a wall, up through the roof, or up a masonry chimney on a 3" co-linear liner — up to 20 ft horizontally or 40 ft vertically. Napoleon's GD-175 stove wall terminal kit includes its pipe, and Wolf Steel, Metal-Fab, BDM, Simpson DuraVent and Selkirk Direct Temp pipe is approved, the third-party systems each with the starter adaptor required for it. We can put the vent package together for your run.
Keep 2" to a combustible back wall (5" if you add the blower), 2" in a 45° corner and 48" from the top of the stove to the ceiling; the side-wall clearance is in section 3.9 on page 24 of the installation manual. Keep furniture 48" from the front. Wood flooring needs nothing underneath; on carpet, vinyl tile or another combustible floor the stove sits on a metal or wood panel covering its full width and depth.
Treat it as a fire to look at, not a heater. It burns 20,000 BTU/hr and puts out up to 14,000 BTU/hr, but Napoleon certifies it as a vented decorative gas appliance rather than a heat source. If you need a stove to heat a space, it is the wrong choice.
Both give you the same fire; the difference is how the pilot runs. With millivolt ignition a standing pilot stays lit, you light it with a push-button igniter, and the stove needs no electricity. With electronic ignition the pilot lights only when the stove is turned on, with an optional continuous-pilot mode that switches itself off after about seven days unused; it has a power cord and keeps working on four AA backup batteries in a power failure.
Yes to both, with one limit. It is approved for bedrooms, bathrooms, bed-sitting rooms, closets and recessed installations; the mobile-home approval covers the natural gas model, for a permanently located manufactured (mobile) home fueled with natural gas, where local codes allow. In a mobile home it must be fastened in place, which the leg leveling and stove securing kit (GDSLL-KT) does. That approval covers the natural gas model only.
No. Napoleon's President's Limited Lifetime Warranty covers the original purchaser who buys through an authorized Napoleon dealer and has the stove installed by a licensed, qualified installer; there is nothing to register, so keep your proof of purchase with the model and serial number. It covers the combustion chamber, heat exchanger, burner, logs and embers, ceramic glass (thermal breakage) and porcelain parts for as long as you own the stove, electrical and wearing parts for one year, and labour for the first year. The Torch Guys will help you with any claim.
