44,000 BTU/hr input on natural gas from a pedestal stove 28-1/4" wide, 30-3/4" high and 21-5/8" deep. The Napoleon Havelock GDS50 is a direct vent gas stove for natural gas or propane, with a three-burner system and turbo burner, a built-in twin blower, a four-piece log set behind a safety barrier screen, millivolt or electronic ignition and a top vent exit on 4" / 7" pipe, from $4,429, covered by Napoleon's President's Limited Lifetime Warranty.
Choose the Havelock if you want a bigger pedestal stove than the Haliburton, with a blower built in: a three-burner fire with a turbo burner you turn up from its own knob, a glass door you pick in metallic black or satin chrome, and approval for bedrooms and bathrooms. Its top vent exit lets the pipe go out through a wall, up through the roof, or up a masonry chimney on a co-linear liner.
It is not right for you if you want a simple single-burner fire. The Havelock runs three burners, with a turbo burner you turn up from its own knob.
The Havelock is 28-1/4" wide, 30-3/4" high and 21-5/8" deep on its pedestal. Keep 7" to a combustible side wall, 2" to the back wall, 1" in a 45° corner (where the blower and on/off switches may be hard to reach) and 20" from the top of the stove to the ceiling. Furniture stays 48" from the front. On wood flooring it needs nothing underneath; on carpet, vinyl tile or another combustible floor it sits on a metal or wood panel the full width and depth of the stove. The vent pipe is 4" exhaust inside 7" intake, up to 20 ft horizontally or 40 ft vertically, and keeps 2" on top and 1" at the sides and bottom of horizontal runs, 1" all round on vertical runs.
The Haliburton GDS28 is the smaller stove in Napoleon's Distinct Series — up to 30,000 BTU against the Havelock's 44,000, and 22-1/2" wide against 28-1/4". The Havelock starts from $4,429; the Haliburton starts from $3,629. Pick the Havelock for the bigger fire and the three-burner system with its turbo burner.
The vent pipe and termination are sold separately; the stove comes with a firestop for the wall pass-through. It vents through 4" exhaust / 7" intake direct vent pipe from a top vent exit — out through a wall, up through the roof, or up a masonry chimney on a 3" co-linear liner — up to 20 ft horizontally or 40 ft vertically. Napoleon's GD-175 stove wall terminal kit includes its pipe, roof kits cover 1/12 to 12/12 pitches and flat roofs, and a periscope kit handles a wall exit below grade. Wolf Steel, Metal-Fab, BDM, Simpson DuraVent and Selkirk Direct Temp pipe is approved; DuraVent, Selkirk Direct Temp and Metal-Fab pipe each connect through the starter adaptor required for it (GDS924N for DuraVent, 4DT-AAN for Selkirk, 4DNA for Metal-Fab). We can put the vent package together for your run.
Keep 7" to a combustible side wall, 2" to the back wall, 1" in a 45° corner and 20" from the top of the stove to the ceiling. At 1" from a wall the blower switch, on/off switch and blower cord may be hard to reach. Keep furniture 48" from the front. Wood flooring needs nothing underneath; on carpet, vinyl tile or another combustible floor the stove sits on a metal or wood panel covering its full width and depth.
Treat it as a fire to look at, not a heater. It burns up to 44,000 BTU/hr and puts out up to 33,000 BTU/hr on natural gas, and its blower moves warm air into the room, but Napoleon certifies it as a vented decorative gas appliance rather than a heat source. If you need a stove to heat a space, it is the wrong choice.
The fire does, on either ignition. The electronic model has a battery holder for four AA batteries that keeps its ignition working when the power is out. The millivolt model keeps a standing pilot lit and its gas valve runs on the pilot's own thermopile, not house power. The built-in blower plugs into an outlet, so it stops until the power comes back.
It is approved for bedrooms, bathrooms and bed-sitting rooms. The natural gas stove is also approved for a permanently located manufactured (mobile) home fueled with natural gas, where local codes allow, and there it must be fastened in place with a securing kit.
Yes. With Napoleon's GS-150KT B-vent adaptor kit it becomes a natural-vent stove that draws its air from the room and vents up a B-vent or lined chimney that serves no wood-burning appliance. As a natural-vent stove it is approved for bedrooms and bed-sitting rooms, not bathrooms, and needs 1" all round the B-vent pipe.
No. Napoleon's President's Limited Lifetime Warranty covers the original purchaser who buys through an authorized Napoleon dealer and has the stove installed by a licensed, qualified installer; there is nothing to register, so keep your proof of purchase with the model and serial number. It covers the combustion chamber, heat exchanger, burner, logs and embers, ceramic glass (thermal breakage) and porcelain parts for as long as you own the stove, electrical and wearing parts such as the blower for one year, and labour for the first year. The Torch Guys will help you with any claim.
