About This Product

Napoleon Patioflame Square Fire Pit Burner Kit

A 60,000 BTU/hr square gas burner for the fire pit you build yourself. The Napoleon Patioflame GPFS60 is a 25-3/4" square stainless steel burner and pan that installs into a non-combustible base, with a topaz glass ember bed, push-button electronic ignition and a thermocouple safety valve that shuts the gas off if the flame goes out. It ships set up for propane with the regulator and hose, and the natural gas orifice is in the box. from $719.

Choose it if you are building a custom outdoor fire pit or fire table and want a square burner to drop into it, running from a 20 lb propane cylinder inside the base or from a natural gas line.

It is not right for you if you want a finished fire pit to set out and light. The GPFS60 is a certified square burner built to drop into the custom fire pit or table you design, on propane or natural gas.

Specifications

The top flange is 25-3/4" square and the pan is 2-1/2" deep, narrowing to 20" across at the bottom. Keep 24" to combustibles at the sides all around, 72" from the top of the unit to any ceiling or overhead, and 9" at the floor. Maximum inlet pressure is 7.0" w.c. on natural gas and 11.0" w.c. on propane. Enclosure framing and the propane cylinder compartment with its ventilation openings are drawn on pages 8, 10 and 11 of the installation manual. It is listed to ANSI Z21.97-2014 / CSA 2.41-2014 for outdoor decorative gas appliances.

GPFS60 vs. the Patioflame Rectangle Burner Kit

The Patioflame Rectangle Burner Kit (GPFR60) is the same 60,000 BTU/hr burner design with the same ignition, glass ember bed and warranty, in a long, narrow 33-1/4" x 11-3/4" footprint for a linear base. Pick the GPFS60 for a square pit or table and the GPFR60 for a rectangular one — from $719 vs from $719.

Answers to common questions

Does it need a chimney or any venting?

No. It is an outdoor decorative gas appliance that burns in the open air, so there is no vent to run. What it needs instead is the right location: outdoors on a patio or in a yard, never inside a building, garage, screened-in porch or gazebo. Under an overhead cover it can have no more than two sidewalls, or three when at least 30% of the surrounding sides stay permanently open.

Where can I install it, and what clearances does it need?

Outdoors on a patio or in a yard, built into a non-combustible base. Keep 24" to combustibles at the sides all around, 72" from the top of the unit to any ceiling or overhead, and 9" at the floor. A sheltered spot is best, because direct wind makes the flame erratic and the burner shuts down in winds over 10 mph. Avoid places that get very wet or where water runs or collects.

What’s included, what’s required, and what’s optional?
  • Included in the box: Square stainless steel burner and pan with control panel, gas valve and flame-height knob; Push-button electronic igniter with battery, and thermocouple safety valve; Topaz glass embers; Propane regulator and hose assembly; Natural gas orifice and conversion label.
  • Required to complete the installation, purchased separately: Enclosure - a non-combustible fire pit base built on site, with tiled cement board the preferred material around the burner and clear access to the on/off valve; Gas supply - a 20 lb propane cylinder with a QCC1 valve, or a natural gas line with a manual shut-off valve, connected by a licensed gas fitter.
  • Optional: Colored glass embers (amber, clear, black, blue or red) — the burner ships with topaz glass embers and runs on them alone.
Can it run on propane or natural gas?

Both. It ships set up for propane: a 20 lb cylinder with a QCC1 valve can sit inside the base, while a 30 lb cylinder has to sit outside it on level ground. For natural gas, the orifice to convert it is in the box, and a licensed gas fitter swaps it and connects the line, which needs a manual shut-off valve and has to be sized for 60,000 BTU/hr. Input is 60,000 BTU/hr on either fuel.

How do I light it, and can I change the flame?

Press the electronic igniter, turn the knob to high and hold it in for about 30 seconds while the safety valve warms up, then set the flame height with the same knob. If the igniter battery is flat you can light it with a long match or lighter. If the flame ever goes out, the safety valve shuts the gas off on its own.

Can I use it in the rain or wind?

Turn it off when it rains. In wind it keeps burning in a light breeze but shuts down when gusts top 10 mph, which is why a sheltered location is best.

Warranty

In the unlikely event your product experiences a defect, our technical team will guide you through the manufacturer’s warranty process. Here is a general outline of what to expect.

Due to the technical nature of our products, the manufacturer must perform troubleshooting to process a warranty claim. Your installer will need to troubleshoot the problem on-site while working in tandem with our technical team. If troubleshooting leads to what The Torch Guys deems as a defective part, we will submit a warranty claim to the manufacturer on your behalf. Before we submit the claim, we will ask you to review the terms and confirm your consent to proceed.

Once the claim is submitted, the manufacturer will review it and either approve or deny it. If they have all the information and accept the claim, your warranty replacement part(s) will begin processing for shipment. If, for any reason, the claim is denied or we need more information, we will notify you as soon as possible.

All warranties are processed as exchanges. You can expect to receive a prepaid return label for the defective part(s), which must be returned within 30 days of receiving the warranty replacement(s).

Warranty claims can take anywhere from 1-4 weeks to process, depending on the season. Given the length of time claims can take, we recommend you fire up your unit in late summer/early fall to ensure your existing fireplace is in good working order for the winter season.
