60,000 BTU/hr maximum input on propane or natural gas, from a stainless steel burner pan 33-1/4" long, 11-3/4" wide and 2-3/4" deep. The Napoleon Patioflame GPFR60 is a drop-in fire pit burner for a non-combustible base you build. It ships ready for a 20 lb propane cylinder with its regulator and hose, includes the natural gas orifice for conversion, lights with a push-button electronic igniter, shuts its own gas off through a thermocouple safety valve if the flame goes out, and comes with a bed of topaz glass embers. It is $719, with 3 years of warranty coverage on the stainless housing and burner.
Choose the GPFR60 if you are building a long, narrow fire feature — a rectangular fire table, a ledge or a seat-height surround in stone, block or tiled cement board — and want a certified gas burner to set into it rather than a finished fire table.
It is not right for you if you want a ready-made fire table. The GPFR60 is a certified gas burner you set into a fire feature of your own design: a table, a ledge or a seat-height surround in stone, block or tile.
The burner pan measures 33-1/4" by 11-3/4" and is 2-3/4" deep. Keep at least 24" from the burner to side walls all around, 72" from the top of the unit to a ceiling or other overhead cover, and 9" to the floor. Inlet pressure tops out at 7" w.c. on natural gas and 11" w.c. on propane. The enclosure layout, with the valve below the burner and the cylinder compartment, is drawn on pages 8 and 11 of the installation manual.
The Patioflame GPFS60 is the square version of the same burner kit — the same 60,000 BTU/hr input on propane or natural gas, the same igniter, control knob and safety valve, the same warranty and topaz glass embers, in a 25-3/4" square pan instead of a 33-1/4" x 11-3/4" rectangle. The GPFR60 is $719; the GPFS60 is $719. Pick by the shape of the table or surround you are building.
Outdoors only, on a patio or in the yard, in a well-ventilated spot — never inside a building, garage, screened-in porch or gazebo. A sheltered spot is best, because wind makes the flame erratic. Under a roof it can have no more than two side walls, or three if at least 30 percent of the perimeter stays permanently open. Keep 24" to side walls, 72" to a ceiling and 9" to the floor, and avoid spots with standing or running water.
Yes. It ships set up for propane, and the natural gas orifice comes in the box. A licensed gas fitter swaps the orifice, leak tests the connections and runs the gas line, which needs a readily accessible manual shut-off valve ahead of the burner and has to be sized for 60,000 BTU/hr over the length of the run. Natural gas inlet pressure is 7.0" w.c. at most.
Non-combustible materials only — the frame, the cabinet and the top all have to be non-combustible, and the material around the burner gets very hot, so it must be able to expand and contract without cracking. Tiled cement board is the preferred surround. Leave the on/off valve easy to reach once the burner is installed; the layout is drawn on page 8 of the installation manual.
Yes, one 20 lb cylinder can. The compartment needs vent openings near the top and at floor level, a partition between the cylinder and the burner, a door that does not lock, and at least 2" between its floor and the ground; sizes are on pages 10 and 11 of the installation manual. A 30 lb cylinder also works, but it sits outside the base on level ground.
Wind is the main thing to plan for — the burner shuts itself down in winds above 10 mph, so a sheltered spot works best. Turn it off when it rains, and keep it covered when it is not in use.
No. Napoleon's President's 3 Year Limited Warranty covers the original purchaser who buys through an authorized Napoleon dealer and has the burner installed by a licensed, authorized technician or contractor, for normal home use. It covers the stainless steel housing and burner assembly for 3 years and all other parts for 2 years. Keep your bill of sale with the model and serial numbers for any claim, and The Torch Guys will help you with it.
