60,000 BTU/hr maximum input on propane or natural gas, from a stainless steel burner unit 47-1/2" long, 13-1/2" wide and 5-1/2" high, built around a heavy-wall 304 stainless steel burner. The Napoleon Linear Patioflame GPFL48 is the burner unit on its own, ready to sit on a surface or to build into a non-combustible base you design. It ships ready for a propane cylinder with its regulator and hose, includes the natural gas orifice for conversion, lights with a push-button electronic igniter, shuts its own gas off through a thermocouple safety valve if the flame goes out, and comes with a bed of topaz glass embers. It is $1,659, with 3 years of warranty coverage on the stainless housing and burner.
Choose the GPFL48 if you are building your own long, low fire feature — a linear fire table, a ledge or a seat-height surround in stone, block or tiled cement board — and want Napoleon's certified linear burner to set into it, with its control module able to sit up to 12" from the burner.
It is not right for you if you want a ready-made fire table. The GPFL48 is Napoleon's certified linear burner for the long fire feature you build, with a control module that can sit up to 12" from the burner.
The burner unit measures 47-1/2" by 13-1/2" and is 5-1/2" high. Keep at least 24" from the burner to side walls all around and 72" from the top of the unit to a ceiling; the limit on an overhang above it is drawn on page 5 of the installation manual. Inlet pressure is 7" w.c. on natural gas and 11" w.c. on propane. Built in, the burner sits 3/4" above the enclosure surface; that layout is drawn on page 8 of the installation manual.
The Linear Gas Patioflame GPFL48MHP is this same 60,000 BTU/hr burner unit, already fitted in Napoleon's own Hammertone pewter powder-coated cabinet, 51-7/8" long and 11-7/8" high, with a brushed stainless cover plate. The GPFL48 is $1,659; the GPFL48MHP is $1,999. Pick the GPFL48 if you are building your own base, and the GPFL48MHP if you want a finished fire feature out of the box.
Outdoors only, on a patio or in the yard, in a well-ventilated spot — never inside a building, garage, screened-in porch or gazebo. Keep 24" to side walls all around and 72" to a ceiling, and avoid spots where it can get excessively wet. It can sit directly on a surface, including a combustible one, as long as those clearances are kept, or it can be built into a non-combustible base.
Yes. It ships set up for propane, and the natural gas orifice comes in the box. A licensed gas fitter swaps the orifice, leak tests the connections and runs the gas line, which needs a readily accessible manual shut-off valve ahead of the burner and has to be sized for 60,000 BTU/hr over the length of the run. Natural gas inlet pressure is 7" w.c.
Non-combustible materials only — the frame, the cabinet and the top all have to be non-combustible, and the material around the burner gets very hot, so it must be able to expand and contract without cracking. Tiled cement board is the preferred surround. The burner sits 3/4" above the enclosure surface, the control module can sit up to 12" away from it, and the on/off valve has to stay easy to reach; the layout is drawn on page 8 of the installation manual.
Only in a compartment built for it. That compartment needs vent openings near the top and at floor level, a partition between the cylinder and the burner, a door that does not lock, and at least 2" between its floor and the ground; opening sizes are on pages 10 and 11 of the installation manual. The cylinder sits on a level surface, and spare cylinders are never stored under or near the burner.
Wind is the main thing to plan for — the burner shuts itself down in winds above 10 mph, so a sheltered spot works best. Turn it off when it rains, and keep it covered when it is not in use.
No. Napoleon's President's 3 Year Limited Warranty covers the original purchaser who buys through an authorized Napoleon dealer and has the burner installed by a licensed, authorized technician or contractor, for normal home use. It covers the stainless steel housing and burner assembly for 3 years and all other parts for 2 years. Keep your bill of sale with the model and serial numbers for any claim, and The Torch Guys will help you with it.
