70,000 BTU/hr on natural gas, or on propane with Napoleon's conversion kit, from a 304 stainless steel firebox with a 74-1/16" by 20" viewing area on both sides. The Napoleon Galaxy 74" See-Through is a built-in outdoor gas fireplace for a patio or yard, with the see-through conversion kit fitted so the fire shows from the front and the back. It frames into an enclosure 79" wide, 40-1/2" high and 15-15/16" deep, ships with a clear glass ember bed, a glass wind guard and multi-colour LED lighting, and lights by electronic ignition from the wall switch that comes with it. It is priced from $7,128, with Napoleon's 5 Year Limited Warranty.
Choose the see-through Galaxy 74" when the fireplace divides two outdoor spaces — a covered patio and a pool deck, say — and you want the fire seen from both. It needs no recess behind it, framing only 15-15/16" deep, and you can change its look later with Woodland media, glass beads, glass embers or a high definition birch, oak or driftwood log set.
It is not right for indoor use or for a fully closed room — it is an outdoor appliance, and any shelter it sits in must stay at least 30 percent open. It is also not a heater: Napoleon certifies it as a decorative outdoor appliance. And it is not freestanding — it has to be built into a framed enclosure at least 72" tall with a non-combustible finish around the opening and a hard-wired 120 V supply, and it is not waterproof, so it should not go where water runs or pools.
The framed opening is 79" wide, 40-1/2" high and 15-15/16" deep; the fireplace itself is 78-9/16" wide, 40-1/8" high to the top of its standoffs and 15-15/16" deep. The enclosure must be at least 72" tall from the bottom of the fireplace, with the ceiling no lower than that. Combustible framing may touch the standoffs at the sides, finishing material keeps 1" from the back (0" on the see-through) and 1/4" from the sides, and any finish over the face within 14" above the opening and 3-1/4" beside it must be non-combustible. Mantel clearance depends on the mantel's depth and on whether the screen kit is fitted — see the table on page 22 of the installation manual. Keep furniture at least 4 feet from the front.
The single-sided Galaxy 74" is the same 70,000 BTU/hr fireplace without the see-through kit — it shows the fire from the front only and frames 17" deep. It is priced from $6,189; this see-through model is from $7,128. The see-through Galaxy also comes in the 50" and 62" widths, rated 50,000 and 60,000 BTU/hr and priced from $5,348 and from $5,978.
Outdoors only — on a patio or in a yard, never indoors or inside the warm-air envelope of a house. A sheltered spot is best, because direct wind makes the flame erratic. It can sit under an overhead cover with no more than two side walls, or under a cover with three walls as long as at least 30 percent of the perimeter stays permanently open — a covered patio, a gazebo or an outside wall of the house all work. Keep furniture at least 4 feet from the front.
Yes. It ships for natural gas; choose Propane above and Napoleon's conversion kit (W175-10003381) is added to your order, and a qualified service technician fits its regulator and orifices. On propane it runs from a 20 lb or 30 lb cylinder (not included), which always stays outside any structure the fireplace is in, or from a hard-piped propane line. It is rated 70,000 BTU/hr on either gas, up to 4,500 ft.
No vent is required. If you want more freedom in how the enclosure is built, Napoleon's optional Prestige Heat and Exhaust Management Kit carries heat and exhaust out of the enclosure through 6" B-vent, rising at least 36" — it has to be fitted during installation, so decide on it before the enclosure is built.
The firebox is 304 stainless steel and drains water through holes along its sloped front, but the fireplace is not waterproof: the enclosure must be finished with every joint sealed, and it should not go where water runs or pools. Between uses, cover the opening — the optional brushed stainless weather cover hangs over the front, and a micro switch keeps the fire off while it is on.
Yes. How high a combustible mantel has to sit depends on how deep it is, and on whether the screen kit is fitted — see the table on page 22 of the installation manual. Napoleon recommends a non-combustible mantel. You can also send us your mantel depth. We're here to help!
No. The Torch Guys is an authorized Napoleon dealer, so Napoleon's 5 Year Limited Warranty applies in full, and we file claims with Napoleon for you.
