The Napoleon Ascent Linear Premium 42" is a linear direct vent gas fireplace that comes ready to run from a remote or your phone: 20,000 BTU/hr on natural gas or propane, a built-in blower, Night Light top lighting, a ProFlame 2 remote and the eFIRE Bluetooth controller are all included — from $4,099 before the burning display and any log set you choose above. It vents through a 4" / 7" pipe off the top, frames into a 42 1/2" wide, 18 9/16" deep opening, and carries Napoleon's President's Lifetime Limited Warranty.
Choose it if you want a long, clean linear flame you can dress your way — Driftwood, Birch, Split Oak or Beach Fire logs, glass beads or embers in eleven colors, or a rock, Shore Fire or Woodland media kit — and control from a remote or your phone. It is approved for bedrooms and bathrooms and certified for mobile homes.
It is not right if you need a heater: Napoleon certifies the Ascent Linear Premium as a decorative appliance, not a source of heat. It also needs a burning display of glass, beads or a media kit (with or without a log set), a 4" / 7" direct vent run and a hard-wired 110 V supply, so it is a framed-in installation rather than a drop-in for an existing fireplace.
The framed opening is 42 1/2" wide, 39 3/8" high and 18 9/16" deep; minimum enclosure and ceiling heights are tabulated on pages 45 and 47 of the installation manual. The face is finished in non-combustible material, which may stand out up to 4" from the door, and the included finishing trim adjusts 0.5" to 1" for the thickness of the finish. No hearth extension is needed. Mantel clearances depend on the mantel's depth and are charted on page 53 of the installation manual. The top of a horizontal vent pipe keeps 3" from combustibles (1" after a 38" straight rise), and the fireplace takes a 1/2" gas line and a hard-wired 110 V supply.
All Ascent Linear Premium sizes share the log and glass choices, the built-in blower, eFIRE controller and Night Light, and frame 39 3/8" high and 18 9/16" deep. The 42" is rated 20,000 BTU/hr on natural gas and frames into a 42 1/2" wide opening, from $4,099; the 46" is rated 24,000 BTU/hr and frames 47 3/8" wide, from $4,409; the 56" is rated 28,000 BTU/hr and frames 56 1/2" wide, from $4,729. The 42" and 46" vent on 4" / 7" pipe, the 56" on 5" / 8".
It is a direct vent fireplace on a 4" / 7" pipe off the top of the unit, run out through a wall or up through the roof: up to 20 ft horizontally and up to 40 ft vertically. Use one brand of pipe throughout — Napoleon, Metal-Fab, BDM, Simpson Dura-Vent, Selkirk Direct Temp, Olympia Ventis or ICC — and do not mix rigid and flexible pipe. Napoleon's 4" / 7" wall terminals are the GD-222, GD-222R and ST47U, with roof kits for pitched and flat roofs. The vent run and termination are ordered separately and sized to your installation, the outside terminal clearances are listed on page 19 of the installation manual, and it is certified for a power vent kit.
Yes, with planning. Napoleon draws the minimum TV clearances above the Ascent Linear Premium on page 54 of the installation manual for a flush installation with a mantel, a recessed installation with a protrusion and partially recessed installations with a mantel (those only with the UHM/DHM kit installed), and crosses out a flush installation without a mantel; the mantel clearances are on page 53, and Napoleon recommends the optional heat management kit for any TV above the fireplace. Adding the optional Universal Heat Management system moves heat away from the fireplace, lowers the temperature above it and reduces the mantel clearances; it goes in before the fireplace is set in place. Always stay within your TV maker's own temperature limits.
Indoors, including bedrooms, bathrooms and bed-sitting rooms, and it is certified for mobile and manufactured homes where local codes allow (fastened in place). It is rated to 4,500 ft, with the input reduced above that. Keep furniture and other objects at least 48" from the front, and do not run it below freezing.
A 1/2" natural gas or propane line to the fireplace's flex connector and shut-off valve, connected and tested before the wall is finished — natural gas at 4.5" to 7" w.c. inlet pressure, propane at 11" to 13" w.c. Electrically it is hard-wired to a grounded 110 V supply, and a 4 AA battery holder keeps the flame working in a power failure. It ships for natural gas and converts to propane with Napoleon's kit W175-10006809.
No. The Torch Guys is an authorized Napoleon dealer, so the President's Lifetime Limited Warranty applies in full, and we file claims with Napoleon for you. The firebox, burner, PHAZER logs and embers and rocks are covered for as long as you own the fireplace — parts free for the first 10 years, then at half of retail; blowers, valves, remotes and other electrical parts and the labour are covered for the first year. Coverage starts on the installation date.
