A 36" built-in electric fireplace with a six-log resin log set over crystal media, framed by decorative brick side panels. The Napoleon Element NEFB36H-BS-2 is self-trimming, so its own frame finishes the opening, and it recesses into an opening only 11" deep with 0" clearance at the sides and back. The top light runs in seven color settings over the flames, and the heater gives about 5,000 BTU/hr on 120 V or 10,000 BTU/hr hard-wired for 240 V, with a thermostat. It plugs into a dedicated outlet — no vent and no gas line. from $1,229.
Choose the 36" if you want a traditional log-and-brick look built into a wall or mantel without a chimney or gas line, in an opening 35-1/2" wide and 31-1/4" high. It plugs in at 120 V, or an electrician can hard-wire it for 240 V to double the heat, and it is approved for bedrooms and manufactured homes. The 42" needs a 41-1/2" wide opening.
It is not right for you if you want a contemporary linear flame. The Element is a traditional log-and-brick fire that builds into a wall or mantel without a chimney or gas line.
The appliance measures 36-1/8" wide by 31-7/8" high by 11-1/4" deep and weighs 72.8 lb. Frame an opening 35-1/2" wide by 31-1/4" high and 11" deep. Clearance to combustibles is 0" at the bottom, sides and back and 2" from the top to a mantel and to the ceiling, measured from the glass front, and the heater vents must stay uncovered. Power is 120 or 240 VAC, 60 Hz, 1,500 W or 3,000 W on a dedicated, grounded 15 A circuit, plugged in at 120 V or hard-wired.
The Element 42" is the same 31-7/8" high fireplace six inches wider and 14" deep, framed 41-1/2" by 31-1/4" by 13-3/4" against this model's 35-1/2" by 31-1/4" by 11". It carries a seven-piece oak log set where the 36" has six resin logs, with the same heater, controls and brick panels. It sells from $1,649 against from $1,229 for the 36".
No. The Element is an electric fireplace and needs only power: plug it into a grounded outlet on a dedicated 15 A circuit, or have an electrician hard-wire it. Extension cords are not allowed.
Either works on a dedicated 15 A circuit. It comes ready to plug in at 120 V and gives about 5,000 BTU/hr. For about 10,000 BTU/hr, a qualified electrician removes the cord and hard-wires it for 240 V; the strain relief, cover plate and wire nut come in the box. The flames, lights and controls are the same either way.
35-1/2" wide by 31-1/4" high and 11" deep. Clearance is 0" at the bottom, sides and back, and 2" from the top to a mantel and to the ceiling. Bring the power to the right side of the opening first, and keep insulation off the appliance - Napoleon recommends finishing the inside of the enclosure, with drywall for example.
No — the Element is self-trimming, so its own surrounding frame finishes the opening. The optional 5" black trim kit adds a wider border; it has four sides and can also be installed as three-sided.
Yes. The flames, ember bed and top light run with the heater off, and the heater can be locked out from the controls. With heat on, the thermostat holds the room between 64°F and 82°F and shuts the heater off when it gets there.
Indoors only, recessed into a framed opening. It is approved for bedrooms and mobile homes and meets HUD standards for manufactured homes, but it is not suitable for a bathroom. Keep furniture, bedding and curtains 36" from the front.
