About This Product

Fiberglow Vented Gas Logs

55,000 BTU/hr from the 18" set and 60,000 BTU/hr from the 24", burning in the wood-burning fireplace you already have and venting up its chimney. The Napoleon Fiberglow is a vented gas log set for natural gas or propane — five PHAZER logs on a fibre burner with electronic pilot-on-demand ignition that runs on four AA batteries, a cast-iron grate and andirons, lava rock and charcoal lumps — from $1,079, covered by Napoleon's President's Lifetime Limited Warranty.

Choose the Fiberglow if you have a working wood-burning fireplace and want a gas fire in it without remodelling: the set sits in the firebox, connects to a gas line and vents through the chimney that is already there, and it needs no electrical outlet. Pick the 18" for a fireplace at least 22" wide, 18" high and 14" deep, or the 24" for one at least 28" wide, 20" high and 14" deep.

It is not right if you want a heater, or if you have no wood-burning fireplace. It is certified as a decorative gas appliance for a solid-fuel burning fireplace, so it needs a working chimney with the damper locked open, any glass doors on the fireplace stay fully open while it burns, and it cannot go in a bedroom or a bathroom.

Specifications

The 18" set needs a fireplace opening at least 22" wide, 18" high and 14" deep; the 24" set needs 28" wide, 20" high and 14" deep. Both run 55,000 or 60,000 BTU/hr respectively on either fuel, from sea level to 4,500 ft. Natural gas wants 4.5" to 7" w.c. at the inlet and propane 11" to 13". The damper stays open to a minimum opening set by your chimney height, tabled in section 2.2 on page 8 of the installation manual, and furniture stays 48" from the front.

Features

  • 55,000 BTU/hr on the 18" set and 60,000 BTU/hr on the 24", on natural gas or propane
  • Five-piece PHAZER log set with a glowing effect that differs in every installation, on a cast-iron grate and andirons
  • Electronic pilot-on-demand ignition that runs on four AA batteries — no house power needed
  • Sets into a wood-burning fireplace you already have and vents up its chimney — no new vent pipe
  • Lava rock, charcoal lumps and the damper stop ship with every set

Answers to common questions

Does the Fiberglow need new venting?

No. It goes into a wood-burning fireplace that has a working flue and vents up that fireplace's chimney. Have the chimney, flue and firebox cleaned first, and close any outside air duct or ash dump. The damper is locked open to a minimum opening that depends on your chimney height — the table is in section 2.2 on page 8 of the installation manual — and the damper stop to hold it there ships with the set.

Will it fit my fireplace?

Measure the firebox. The 18" set needs an opening at least 22" wide, 18" high and 14" deep; the 24" needs at least 28" wide, 20" high and 14" deep. The fireplace has to be built for wood and made of non-combustible material, and furniture stays 48" from the front. It is for indoor use and not for a bedroom or a bathroom.

What’s included, what’s required, and what’s optional?
  • Included in the box: Five-piece PHAZER log set; Fibre burner with electronic pilot-on-demand ignition, on/off switch and battery pack (takes four AA batteries); Cast-iron grate and andirons; Lava rock and charcoal lumps; Damper stop with 3" adjustable bolt; Napoleon President's Lifetime Limited Warranty.
  • Required to complete the installation, purchased separately: Fireplace - a wood-burning fireplace built of non-combustible material with a working chimney flue, at least 22" wide, 18" high and 14" deep for the 18" set or 28" x 20" x 14" for the 24"; its damper is locked open with the supplied damper stop (see pg 8 in the installation manual); Gas Line - a 1/2" or larger gas line with a manual shut-off, run into the fireplace by a qualified installer; Batteries - four AA batteries for the burner's battery pack.
  • Optional: The on/off remote with digital screen, mineral rocks and the D-cell battery pack — the log set runs without any of them.
Does it need electricity, and does it work in a power outage?

It needs no house power at all. The electronic ignition runs on four AA batteries in the battery pack on the burner, so a power outage does not stop it. The pilot lights itself when you switch the set on, and a continuous-pilot mode keeps it lit in cold weather, switching itself off after about seven days unused.

Will it heat my room?

Treat it as a fire to look at rather than a heater. It burns up to 55,000 BTU/hr (18") or 60,000 BTU/hr (24"), but Napoleon certifies it as a decorative gas appliance for a wood-burning fireplace, and it vents up an open chimney. If you need a fireplace to heat a room, look at a gas insert instead.

Can I add a remote?

Yes. A remote is not included, but the burner has a bracket at the back right for a receiver that wires into its harness. Napoleon's on/off remote with digital screen (F45) is the one listed for the Fiberglow, and you can add it below.

Does buying from The Torch Guys affect my Napoleon warranty?

No. Napoleon's President's Lifetime Limited Warranty covers the original purchaser who buys through an authorized Napoleon dealer and has the set installed by a licensed, qualified installer; there is nothing to register, so keep your proof of purchase with the model and serial number. It covers the burner, logs, embers and rocks for as long as you own it (parts free for the first 10 years, 50% of retail after) and electrical parts for one year; labour is not covered on gas log sets. The Torch Guys will help you with any claim.

Warranty

In the unlikely event your product experiences a defect, our technical team will guide you through the manufacturer’s warranty process. Here is a general outline of what to expect.

Due to the technical nature of our products, the manufacturer must perform troubleshooting to process a warranty claim. Your installer will need to troubleshoot the problem on-site while working in tandem with our technical team. If troubleshooting leads to what The Torch Guys deems as a defective part, we will submit a warranty claim to the manufacturer on your behalf. Before we submit the claim, we will ask you to review the terms and confirm your consent to proceed.

Once the claim is submitted, the manufacturer will review it and either approve or deny it. If they have all the information and accept the claim, your warranty replacement part(s) will begin processing for shipment. If, for any reason, the claim is denied or we need more information, we will notify you as soon as possible.

All warranties are processed as exchanges. You can expect to receive a prepaid return label for the defective part(s), which must be returned within 30 days of receiving the warranty replacement(s).

Warranty claims can take anywhere from 1-4 weeks to process, depending on the season. Given the length of time claims can take, we recommend you fire up your unit in late summer/early fall to ensure your existing fireplace is in good working order for the winter season.
