An 82" freestanding infrared patio heater that plugs into a 120 V outdoor outlet, with no propane tank to refill. The Napoleon Freestand Phantom NEOFV80IH puts 1,500 W, about 5,000 BTU/hr, into a cantilever arm that stows vertical or locks out over your seating at three angles. One light-up knob runs nine heat levels and a 1-to-9-hour timer, an LED spot light sits in the arm, and the base rolls on wheels when you want it somewhere else. from $859.
Choose it if you want spot heat over a patio table or lounge area that you can move with the seating — wheel it out for the evening and back against the wall after — and you have a GFCI-protected outdoor outlet within reach of its 8-foot cord.
It is not right if you need to warm a large open patio: at 1,500 W it is focused spot heat for the people under the arm. It also needs a hard, level surface such as concrete or pavers rather than grass or other soft ground, 12 ft of distance from a pool or hot tub, and an 8 ft ceiling at minimum under a covered patio. Where high winds are common the base has to be fixed to the ground.
With the arm stowed it stands 82" tall on a weighted base 14" wide and 24-1/2" deep. Minimum clearances to combustibles are 26" front and back and 3-1/2" at the sides, measured from the tower, and 4" from the arm to any ceiling, with an 8 ft minimum ceiling height; keep furniture and plants 3.3 ft from the front of the heater head. Power is 120 V AC, 1,500 W maximum, plugged into a grounded GFCI-protected outlet on a dedicated 15 A circuit. The electronics are designed to operate between 41°F and 95°F. It is certified to CSA 22.2 No. 46 / UL 1278 and rated IP34.
No. It is an electric heater that plugs into a grounded 120 V outlet on a dedicated 15 A circuit. Outdoors that outlet must be GFCI-protected and use an IP34-or-better outdoor plug and socket. Plug it straight into the outlet; extension cords and power strips are not allowed.
The arm stows vertical against the tower and locks out over your seating at 90°, 100° or 110°, so you have four positions from upright to horizontal. Turn the heater off and let it cool before you move the arm.
Yes. Unplug it, wind the 8-foot cord onto the hooks inside the base, stow the arm vertical, then tilt the heater back onto its wheels and roll it. Set it down on a stable surface such as a concrete slab or stone pavers and level it with the four adjustable feet. In windy locations the base should be fixed to the ground.
Outdoors on a hard, level surface, at least 12 ft from a pool, hot tub or shower, and not directly under a ceiling fan or sprinkler. Allow 26" front and back and 3-1/2" at the sides from the tower, 4" from the arm to any ceiling, and an 8 ft minimum ceiling height. Keep furniture, plants and other combustibles 3.3 ft from the front of the heater head.
