A fireplace flat on a wall gives you one face of the fire. This one steps out into the room and gives you three. The Divine HL38PF is a 38" three-sided pier gas fireplace with a contemporary linear burner: 34,000 BTU/hr on natural gas (32,000 on propane), a framed opening of 23 3/4" W x 44" H x 41" D that projects into the room, $6,709, covered by Montigo's residential fireplace warranty. Direct vent, SIT Proflame 2 electronic ignition only, firestones supplied (fireglass optional).
Choose it if you want to break up an open floor plan without building a wall, and the room reads modern rather than traditional - a linear flame over firestones, visible from three sides. You need to dedicate 41" of floor projection to the pier. The Proflame 2 remote also runs accent lights and, if you add the optional fans, 6-speed fan control.
It is not right if you want a standing pilot (none exists - every pier, bay, and corner Divine is electronic ignition), if you expect a glass firebed as standard (it ships with firestones; fireglass is an option), if you cannot give up 41" of floor projection, or if it would sit in an open, uncovered outdoor space.
The framed opening is 23 3/4" wide x 44" high x 41" deep - the pier projects into the room, so the deep dimension is the projection. Clearances: 11" above with a rear vent or 17 1/2" with a top vent, 4" header, 0" sides, 0" front, 2" rear. The supplied standoffs are required and maintain 8". Combustible surrounds need 3" of side clearance. Gas supply: natural gas at 5.5" w.c. minimum inlet or propane at 11" w.c. Electrical: 120 VAC, 60 Hz, 6 A with a 3.15 A fuse, plus a 4x AA battery backup.
Same chassis, traditional dress: the H38PF ($6,709) swaps the linear burner for a ceramic logset. Same modern look, different footprint: the contemporary bay HL38PR ($6,709) mounts in the wall with a 24 1/2"-deep framed opening, and the contemporary corner HL38C ($6,709) tucks into a left or right corner. Only need two sides of glass? The see-through H38FSD starts at $4,759.
Any combustible mantel must stay within the mantel-projection zone, and combustible surrounds need at least 3" of side clearance. Run anything you plan to mount on the wall above past your installer first.
It is a direct-vent fireplace: 5" inner / 8" outer co-axial pipe, convertible to a top or rear vent run, terminating through the roof or an exterior wall. The termination must be the highest point of the vent run, and Montigo flex sections may not be cut. Vent pipe and termination are sold separately. Besides Montigo's own venting, approved alternates include DuraVent, ICC, MetalFab, Selkirk, and Flexmaster - The Torch Guys stocks DuraVent. If you need a power vent, that option requires Montigo pipe.
It ships with firestones. Fireglass is optional, so if you want a glass firebed, plan on adding it. The remote can also operate accent lights.
Yes. The SIT Proflame 2 electronic ignition runs on 120 V but includes a 4x AA battery backup (part AF40BP), so you can still light the fireplace during a power outage.
Yes, with conditions. It is approved for a protected outdoor room: the overhang must cover at least 75% of the fireplace's height on the front and the sides, the supplied safety screen must stay installed, wiring must be outdoor-rated, and you cannot operate it below freezing (32°F).
