No vent pipe, no chase, no roof penetration. Run gas to it and the fire goes wherever the seating is. The Divine HL38VO is a 38" outdoor-only ventless gas fireplace with a contemporary linear burner and firestones: 34,000 BTU/hr on natural gas or propane, a 32 1/8" x 21 5/8" viewing area, minimum framing of 39 1/4" W x 42 1/2" H x 21 3/8" D, from $4,419, covered by Montigo's residential fireplace warranty. No flue, no vent pipe.
Choose it if the outdoor space is styled modern and a logset would fight it - a clean linear flame over firestones instead, built into a patio, outdoor-kitchen, or courtyard wall with zero venting to run. You need non-combustible facing and the outdoor siting rules covered (at least 2 open sides on a covered area, no recessing into the exterior wall).
It is not right if you want it indoors or in an enclosed space - ever (carbon monoxide hazard), if your covered patio has fewer than 2 open sides, if the surround will be combustible material, or if you cannot plan a drain path for water management.
Minimum framing is 39 1/4" wide x 42 1/2" high x 21 3/8" deep, measured to the back wall. Clearances: 9" top, 5 1/2" header, 1" sides, 0" floor, 1" back, 12" to a mantel, 36" to the ceiling, and a shelf must sit at least 9" above the top. All facing must be non-combustible. Gas supply: natural gas at 5.5" w.c. minimum inlet or propane at 11" w.c. Standing-pilot models need no electricity; E models use 110 V Honeywell Hot Surface Ignition.
Same size, traditional dress: the H38VO carries a six-log ceramic-fibre set at the same from-$4,419 price. Different sizes only come traditional: the 34" H34VO (26,000 BTU/hr, from $3,869) and the 42" H42VO (40,000 BTU/hr, from $5,199). Want the linear look in a two-sided outdoor divider? The contemporary see-through HL38SVO puts out 45,000 BTU/hr from $8,639.
No - it is for outdoor use only. Running it in an enclosed space is a carbon monoxide hazard. Even outdoors there are siting rules: at least 2 sides of a covered patio or deck must be open, the unit may not be recessed into the exterior wall, and all fireplace facing must be non-combustible (the facing can exceed 250°F). Where the unit penetrates the building envelope or snow accumulates, keep 12" of clearance to grade unless a listed exception applies.
None. This is an outdoor ventless fireplace, so venting does not apply. No flue, no vent pipe, no chimney. That is a large part of the installed-cost saving over a direct-vent unit.
The standing-pilot versions (HL38VON, HL38VOL) are millivolt - the Honeywell valve powers itself, so no electricity is needed at all. The E versions (HL38VONE, HL38VOLE) use Honeywell Hot Surface Ignition on 110 V; outdoor wiring must sit in a water-tight electrical box with GFI protection per local code.
Firestones - this is the linear-burner model, and the media option is firestones or optional cultured rocks. Whichever you use, the stones must not cover the burner ports.
Plan a drain system - drainage planning is required for both in-wall and standalone installs, and Montigo offers an optional drain pan (OD38123) for this model. In freezing climates Montigo recommends an insulated chase with a vapour barrier.
Keep a mantel at least 12" above the opening and any shelf at least 9" above the top of the unit; the ceiling needs 36". All facing material around the fireplace must be non-combustible - it can run past 250°F in operation.
