About This Product

The SF-BI36-EB from SimpliFire

The SimpliFire 36" Built-In (SF-BI36-EB) is a traditional-style electric fireplace with a 34-1/4" W x 27-1/4" H view: one-piece glowing timber logs over a lighted ember bed, four flame colors, and a multi-function remote. It ships hardwire-ready with a plug/cord kit and installs before drywall into finishes up to 3 in. thick — tile, shiplap, stone, brick, or drywall. Wire it for 120V for a 5,000 BTU/hr assist, or 240V for 10,000 BTU/hr. from $1,499.

Choose it if you want a clean, recessed traditional firebox for new construction or a remodel, finished into the wall before drywall, with the flexibility to plug in or hardwire.

It is not a primary heat source — 5,000-10,000 BTU/hr is supplemental warmth. It also installs pre-drywall into a rough opening, so it is not a drop-in for an existing finished wall.

Specifications

The SF-BI36-EB sets into a 31-7/32" H x 39" W x 11-3/4" D rough opening as a zero-clearance design (2 in. of top clearance is required only when hardwired for 240V), with 36 in. to combustibles at the front. It runs on a 15 A, 60 Hz circuit at either voltage.

How the SF-BI36-EB compares

The Built-In comes in two sizes on the same platform: the 36" here and the 30" (from $1,299). Same features and install — pick the width for your opening.

Features

  • A 34-1/4" W x 27-1/4" H viewing area with one-piece glowing timber logs over a lighted ember bed
  • Four flame colors and a lighted ember bed, from push buttons on the fireplace or the included multi-function remote
  • Wire for 120V for a 5,000 BTU/hr assist or 240V for 10,000 BTU/hr, with a thermostat and a flame-only mode
  • Ships hardwire-ready with an included plug/cord kit, and installs before drywall into finishes up to 3 in. thick
  • An optional black decorative front adds a 2-in. overhang to cover the drywall transition

Answers to common questions

Can I plug it in, or does it have to be hardwired?

Either. It ships hardwire-ready and includes a plug/cord kit, so you can plug into a nearby outlet or hardwire it. Wiring for 240V doubles the heat output to 10,000 BTU/hr.

What’s included, what’s required, and what’s optional?
  • Included in the box: The SF-BI36-EB built-in firebox with one-piece glowing timber logs, lighted ember bed, multi-function remote (2 AAA), and a plug/cord kit.
  • Required to complete the installation, purchased separately: A 120V (15 A) or 240V circuit brought to the rough opening — hardwired or plugged into the included cord kit; Wall framing and finishing materials for the pre-drywall opening.
  • Optional: An optional black decorative front covers the drywall transition — the fireplace finishes cleanly without it.
How is it installed?

Pre-drywall: it sets into a rough framed opening before the wall is finished, then finishes into tile, shiplap, stone, brick, or drywall up to 3 in. thick. Plan a circuit at the opening before you close the wall.

How much heat does it produce?

5,000 BTU/hr on 120V and 10,000 BTU/hr on 240V — supplemental warmth, not a primary heat source. The flame runs independently of the heater, so you can use it any time of year.

Warranty

In the unlikely event your product experiences a defect, our technical team will guide you through the manufacturer’s warranty process. Here is a general outline of what to expect.

Due to the technical nature of our products, the manufacturer must perform troubleshooting to process a warranty claim. Your installer will need to troubleshoot the problem on-site while working in tandem with our technical team. If troubleshooting leads to what The Torch Guys deems as a defective part, we will submit a warranty claim to the manufacturer on your behalf. Before we submit the claim, we will ask you to review the terms and confirm your consent to proceed.

Once the claim is submitted, the manufacturer will review it and either approve or deny it. If they have all the information and accept the claim, your warranty replacement part(s) will begin processing for shipment. If, for any reason, the claim is denied or we need more information, we will notify you as soon as possible.

All warranties are processed as exchanges. You can expect to receive a prepaid return label for the defective part(s), which must be returned within 30 days of receiving the warranty replacement(s).

Warranty claims can take anywhere from 1-4 weeks to process, depending on the season. Given the length of time claims can take, we recommend you fire up your unit in late summer/early fall to ensure your existing fireplace is in good working order for the winter season.
