Venting Configurations

Exemplar (R/RP-Series) is a power-vented fireplace, with one exception: R324 STIO is ventless (indoor/outdoor pass-through). Power vent terminations may be vertical (roof), horizontal (wall), or inline. Vent pipe is 5″/8″ standard; 5″/10″ also approved. Power vent control cable required between termination and electrical control panel.

RP424 (pier) follows the same 5″/8″ power-vent system. R324 STIO is the ventless indoor/outdoor exception in this series — see the Outdoor series page for its venting details. Minimum 7 ft of pipe between fireplace and inline power vent (PVHIN58-300). Refer to installation manual venting tables for vent configuration details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I convert from natural gas to propane?

Yes, with a propane conversion kit. Every Montigo gas model is made for natural gas; select propane as your fuel type on our website and the conversion kit is automatically added to your order.

What venting do I need?

These models use direct-vent sealed combustion piping. Both vertical (through-roof) and horizontal (through-wall) terminations are supported. Refer to the installation manual for exact pipe size, max run length, and clearance requirements per model.

What does "zero-clearance installation" mean?

Zero-clearance means the firebox can be installed directly against combustible framing materials (wood studs, drywall) without additional clearance requirements. This significantly simplifies framing and lets you flush-mount the fireplace to surrounding finishes.

How does Exemplar differ from Distinction?

Exemplar is the architect/spec-builder tier — Honeywell HSI ignition, frameless glass design, home automation compatibility, and sizes up to 96". Distinction is the modern luxury tier with Proflame 2 IPI ignition, LED uplighting standard, and sizes up to 72". If you need 84" or 96" widths, multi-sided STIO units, or 24VAC integration, Exemplar is the platform.
