About This Product

The CD Series CD-5200 from Infratech

5,200 watts of 93%-efficient infrared heat from a 48" dual-element quartz-tube heater in 304 stainless steel: an average 10' x 10' of coverage from a 8' – 10' mounting height, 240V, 208V, 480V, 277V variants, from $930, UL & cUL listed, made in Gardena, California, and backed by a 3-year parts warranty.

Choose the CD-Series for a visible wall or ceiling mount you actually want to look at — the floating bracket design and optional Motif fascias make it the architectural choice for surface installs.

It is not a furnace substitute — Infratech states these radiant heaters are not a replacement for forced air or ductless heating. It must be hard-wired by a licensed electrician (there is no plug), and the 277V and 480V variants are rated "Commercial Use Only" — do not order those voltages for a home.

Specifications

Keep 18" of clearance at the sides and ends, 36" in front, and 6" behind the heater; wall mounts sit at least 12" below the ceiling angled 30–60° down, and the minimum mounting height is 6' (UL) or 8' (UL/cUL). Power is 240V, 208V, 480V, 277V depending on the variant, drawing 21.6 A at 240V / 25 A at 208V / 10.8 A at 480V / 18.7 A at 277V, on a dedicated hard-wired circuit.

CD-5200 vs. its closest Infratech options

A Marine UpGrade version in 316 stainless is from $1,180 (vs from $930 here), and the next size in the CD Series line, 6,000 watts at 61 1/4", is from $1,004.

Features

  • All-weather 304 stainless steel C-shaped body, 2.5" deep — with 316 marine grade available as its own listing
  • 93% efficient, emission-free infrared heat from dual quartz-tube infrared elements with a high output safety grid
  • Covers an average 10' x 10' area from a 8' – 10' mounting height — up to 12' x 12' in protected spaces
  • Inset mounting brackets give the housing a floating appearance on a wall or ceiling
  • Brushed stainless or eight standard powder-coat colors, with unlimited custom colors by quote
  • Optional Motif laser-cut decorative fascias snap over the body in four architectural styles

Answers to common questions

Do I need an electrician to install it?

Yes. Every CD Series heater is permanently installed and hard wired by a licensed electrician to NEC and local codes — the housing is drilled and threaded for standard 1/2" conduit, and outdoor installs use components rated IPX4. There is no plug-in option.

Which voltage should I order?

Match the circuit your electrician will run: this model comes in 240V, 208V, 480V, 277V versions, and the element must match the supply — a 240V element on 208V supply will warm but not glow or heat properly. The 277V and 480V variants are rated "Commercial Use Only" per the manual — don't order them for a residence.

How much area does it actually heat?

Infratech rates the CD-5224 at 10' x 10' average coverage from a 8' – 10' mounting height — up to 12' x 12' in protected areas, and closer to 8' x 8' in extreme cold or wind. Heating from two sides beats one big heater when you can do it.

Can it stay outside in the rain?

It's all-weather construction, and the manual requires outdoor wiring components with a minimum IPX4 rating — but Infratech recommends hanging it under a roof or weather cover when possible — it will last longer and look better protected from rain and snow.

What controls does it need?

A control or switch is required and every Infratech control is sold separately — from simple on/off and duplex switches to INF regulators, the smart dimmer/switch, and zoned control panels. One caution from the manual: using competitor controls or accessories may void the Infratech warranty.

What's the difference between this and the Marine Grade version?

Construction. Every Infratech heater is corrosion-resistant 304 stainless steel; the Marine UpGrade version is 316 marine grade stainless for coastal, alpine, windy, and humid exposure. Same wattage and coverage — pick by environment.

Does buying online affect my Infratech warranty?

No — The Torch Guys is 1 of only 5 authorized Infratech online dealers in the United States, so the full 3-year limited parts warranty applies. And we handle it for you: we register your heater with Infratech (which also enrolls you in their Heater Maintenance Program for free replacement end covers) and we file any claim directly with the factory, so you're never chasing paperwork.

Warranty

In the unlikely event your product experiences a defect, our technical team will guide you through the manufacturer’s warranty process. Here is a general outline of what to expect.

Due to the technical nature of our products, the manufacturer must perform troubleshooting to process a warranty claim. Your installer will need to troubleshoot the problem on-site while working in tandem with our technical team. If troubleshooting leads to what The Torch Guys deems as a defective part, we will submit a warranty claim to the manufacturer on your behalf. Before we submit the claim, we will ask you to review the terms and confirm your consent to proceed.

Once the claim is submitted, the manufacturer will review it and either approve or deny it. If they have all the information and accept the claim, your warranty replacement part(s) will begin processing for shipment. If, for any reason, the claim is denied or we need more information, we will notify you as soon as possible.

All warranties are processed as exchanges. You can expect to receive a prepaid return label for the defective part(s), which must be returned within 30 days of receiving the warranty replacement(s).

Warranty claims can take anywhere from 1-4 weeks to process, depending on the season. Given the length of time claims can take, we recommend you fire up your unit in late summer/early fall to ensure your existing fireplace is in good working order for the winter season.
