A 74" electric fireplace that recesses fully into the wall, with a 69-3/4" x 17-1/2" flame view behind glass that folds down for easy media changes. The Napoleon Astound Built-In NEFB74AB heats at 5,000 BTU/hr on 120 V or 10,000 BTU/hr on 240 V, runs orange and yellow flames with a spark effect, and ships with Beach Fire driftwood logs and the Woodland media kit. It is hard-wired, with no vent and no gas line. from $3,599.
Choose the 74" if you are building a feature wall and want a 69-3/4" wide flame set flush into it — finished right up to the glass or with a 2" trim — controlled by remote, phone or voice, in a room where a gas line or vent is not possible.
It is not right if you want to plug it in or hang it on a wall: it must be fully recessed in a framed enclosure and hard-wired by an electrician to its own 15 A circuit. It is not for a bathroom or outdoors. Its heater reaches 3,000 W at 240 V.
The body is 74-1/4" wide, 25-3/4" high and 12-5/16" deep behind a 3/4" flange, with a 69-3/4" x 17-1/2" view, and weighs 183 lb. Frame an opening 74-3/4" wide, 26-1/4" high and 13" deep in a non-load-bearing wall. Clearance to combustibles is 0" at the bottom, sides and back and 0" at the top when recessed, with 3-9/16" from the top of the fireplace to a mantel; keep furniture and curtains 36" away. Power is hard-wired at 120 VAC (1,500 W) or 240 VAC (3,000 W) on a dedicated, grounded 15 A circuit.
Every Astound Built-In is 25-3/4" high with the same heater, flames, controls and included Beach Fire media; only the width changes. Next to this model's 69-3/4" view at from $3,599, compare the 62" (from $3,269, 57-3/4" wide view) and the 96" (from $4,149, 91-3/4" wide view).
No. It is an electric fireplace and needs no venting, chimney or gas — only power. It must be hard-wired by a qualified electrician to a dedicated, grounded 15 A circuit, at 120 V or at 240 V; there is no plug-in option.
Heat. Wired at 120 V the heater runs at 1,500 W, about 5,000 BTU/hr; wired at 240 V it runs at 3,000 W, about 10,000 BTU/hr. The flames and lighting are the same either way, and they run with the heater off.
Frame a non-load-bearing opening 74-3/4" wide, 26-1/4" high and 13" deep; two people lift the fireplace in and screw its brackets to the framing. Finishing material — combustible or not — butts against the fireplace's finishing flange for a trim-less look, or the included 2" trim covers the cut edge of materials 1/8" to 1-1/2" thick. It is single-sided and cannot be hung on the wall.
Yes. Clearance to combustibles is 0" at the top when the fireplace is recessed, and a mantel needs 3-9/16" above the top of the fireplace. Use a heat-resistant paint or lacquer on the mantel, and keep furniture and curtains 36" from the fireplace.
Indoors, in a framed wall, including bedrooms; it also meets HUD standards for manufactured homes. It is not suitable for a bathroom or for outdoor use, and it is designed to run between 41°F and 95°F.
