40,000 BTU/hr input on natural gas from an insert 34-1/8" wide that slides into an existing wood-burning fireplace and vents up the chimney on two 3" liners. The Napoleon Oakville X4 GDIX4 is the largest Oakville direct vent gas insert, for natural gas or propane, with split flow, a split oak PHAZER log set, a 518 sq. in. view through 5 mm ceramic glass, a built-in blower, a Night Light, a Proflame 2 remote and eFIRE app control, from $4,239, covered by Napoleon's President's Limited Lifetime Warranty.
Choose the Oakville X4 if you have a large wood-burning fireplace to convert to gas: it fits an opening 34-1/4" wide, 24-5/8" high and 17-3/4" deep, gives a 518 sq. in. view, and lets you run one burner or both from the remote. It vents up the existing chimney on two 3" liners and comes with its logs, blower, Night Light, remote and eFIRE app control. Pick the reflective porcelain or one of two brick panels, and finish the opening with a faceplate or backerplate.
It is not right for you if you have a small fireplace opening. The X4 is built for a large wood-burning fireplace, with a 518 sq. in. view and two burners you run together or one at a time from the remote.
The Oakville X4 is 34-1/8" wide, 24-9/16" high and 17-3/4" deep, and needs a fireplace opening at least 34-1/4" wide, 24-5/8" high and 17-3/4" deep with a chimney flue of 6" or more. A non-combustible hearth must reach 12" in front of it; on a combustible hearth the insert is raised 4" or set on a riser box. A combustible mantel projecting up to 3" sits at least 12" above the top of the insert, and deeper mantels need more height — see the mantel chart in section 3.1 on page 14 of the installation manual. Furniture stays 48" from the front. The two 3" liners run 10 to 45 ft.
The Oakville X3 is the smaller insert in the same series — 30,000 BTU/hr input against the X4's 40,000 on natural gas, 28-15/16" wide against 34-1/8", for an opening from 29" wide. Both come with split oak logs, a blower, a Night Light, the Proflame 2 remote and eFIRE app control, and both vent on two 3" liners; split flow is on the X4 only, and the cast iron surround is made for the X3. The X4 starts from $4,239; the X3 starts from $3,889. Pick the X4 for a fireplace opening 34-1/4" wide or more.
The venting is sold separately. The X4 vents up your existing chimney through two 3" flexible liners, one for intake and one for exhaust, run continuously from the insert to the top of the chimney — 10 ft minimum and 45 ft maximum. Napoleon's 3" liner kits come in 20, 25, 35 and 45 ft lengths (GDI-320KT, GDI-325KT, GDI-335KT and GDI-345KT). We can put the vent package together for your chimney.
It fits if your fireplace is a vented, non-combustible wood-burning fireplace — masonry or factory-built — with an opening at least 34-1/4" wide, 24-5/8" high and 17-3/4" deep and a chimney flue of at least 6" round. The insert itself is 34-1/8" wide, 24-9/16" high and 17-3/4" deep. The damper is removed or locked open, and you need a non-combustible hearth reaching 12" in front, or the insert raised 4" or set on a riser box.
Yes. A combustible mantel that projects up to 3" from the wall sits at least 12" above the top of the insert, and a deeper mantel has to sit higher — the mantel clearance chart is in section 3.1 on page 14 of the installation manual. Keep furniture and drapes 48" from the front of the insert.
Split flow lets you choose from the remote whether one burner or both burners are lit. With the second burner off you get a smaller fire; with it on, the whole firebox fills with flame. The flame height is set for the fire as a whole — the two burners are not adjusted separately.
Yes. The X4 has a built-in Bluetooth module for Napoleon's eFIRE app, which turns it on and off and sets the flame, lights and blower from your phone. The included Proflame 2 remote does the same and can always turn the insert off. If the power goes out, four AA batteries keep the flame working; the blower and Night Light wait for power to return.
No. Napoleon's President's Limited Lifetime Warranty covers the original purchaser who buys through an authorized Napoleon dealer and has the insert installed by a licensed, qualified installer; there is nothing to register, so keep your proof of purchase with the model and serial number. It covers the combustion chamber, heat exchanger, burner, logs and embers, ceramic glass (thermal breakage) and porcelain parts for as long as you own the insert, electrical and wearing parts for one year, and labour for the first year. The Torch Guys will help you with any claim.
