Osburn Gusto EPA 2020 Wood Burning Cookstove
Bake, simmer and heat the house from one fire. The Osburn Gusto (OB02047) is an EPA 2020-certified wood burning cookstove with a stainless steel oven — glass door, built-in thermometer — above a 2.26 cubic foot firebox, and a cast-iron cooking surface across the top. It is rated up to 75,000 BTU/hr on dry cordwood at 83% optimum efficiency and 2.0 g/h, for 500 to 2,100 square feet, with up to 8 hours per load and 20-inch logs. It vents through a 6-inch chimney and is approved for mobile homes. The decorative molding completes it above and is priced on top; from $5,829 for the cookstove alone.
Choose the Gusto if you want to cook on the same fire that heats the room: bake in the 18-inch stainless oven, watching the thermometer in its door, and simmer or fry in pots on the cast-iron top — small pieces of wood for quick, hot cooking, bigger ones for a long simmer. It brings a liter of water to a boil in under 20 minutes, and the same fire heats 500 to 2,100 square feet. Finish it in black or brushed nickel molding.
It is not right for an alcove, a bedroom or the inside of an existing fireplace: it is a freestanding cookstove only. It is not a range you cook on directly — the top is for pots and pans, and the oven swings about 50 °F from front to back. In the United States it needs 15 inches to a combustible side wall whichever connector you use, a 6-inch chimney at least 12 feet tall that serves no other appliance, and a floor that can carry about 575 pounds.
Specifications
The Gusto sits 15 inches from a combustible side wall with either connector. With a single-wall connector it needs 15 inches at the back and 7-1/2 inches in a corner; a listed double-wall connector brings the back to 6 inches and the corner to 5 inches. The front clearance is charted in Figure 40 on page 56 of the installation manual, and the ceiling must be at least 72 inches above the floor the stove stands on. With the certified modular heat shield and a double-wall connector, the back, sides and corner all come down to 2-1/2 inches. On a combustible floor, the ember protector runs 16 inches in front of the door opening and 8 inches beyond each side of it, a 39-7/8 by 38-3/8 inch area. The chimney is 6 inches — UL 103 HT factory-built or a lined masonry chimney — at least 12 feet from the stove top, 3 feet above the roof. The cookstove is 29-3/8 inches wide, 29 inches deep and 41-7/8 inches high, and weighs about 575 pounds.

Answers to common questions
What chimney does the Gusto need, and is any of it included?
The chimney and the connector pipe are not included; only the universal connector at the flue outlet comes with the stove. The Gusto has a 6-inch flue outlet and vents into a 6-inch factory-built chimney listed to UL 103 HT (2100 °F), or into a code-approved masonry chimney with a clay or listed stainless liner — an oversized masonry flue gets a listed 6-inch stainless liner. The chimney runs at least 12 feet from the top of the stove, 3 feet above the roof and 2 feet above anything within 10 feet, and serves no other appliance. Between the stove and the chimney goes a 6-inch chimney connector: black single-wall pipe at least 24 gauge thick with no more than 10 feet of horizontal run and two 90° elbows, or a listed double-wall connector, which fits the universal connector that comes with the stove and cuts the clearances. How do the oven and the cooktop work?
Both are heated by the fire. The hot gases leave the firebox, split around the left and right sides of the stainless steel oven and meet between the oven and the cast-iron top before going up the chimney. You watch the oven through its glass door, on a thermometer that reads 150 to 750 °F, and set it with the air control or by opening the oven door; expect about 50 °F between the cooler front left and the hotter rear right, and turn dishes halfway through. The top is for cookware — heat-resistant cast iron or aluminum — rather than food laid straight on the surface, because the paint is not food grade. Small pieces of wood give quick, hot cooking heat; larger ones a long, gentle simmer.
How close can it sit to a wall or in a corner?
With a single-wall connector: 15 inches from a combustible side wall, 15 inches from the back wall and 7-1/2 inches from each wall in a corner. With a listed double-wall connector: 15 inches at the side, 6 inches at the back and 5 inches in a corner. The front clearance is charted in Figure 40 on page 56 of the installation manual, and the ceiling must be at least 72 inches above the floor the stove stands on. What goes on the floor under the cookstove?
On a combustible floor the Gusto needs a non-combustible ember protector — sheet steel at least 0.015 inch thick, ceramic tile sealed with grout over a continuous non-combustible sheet, cement board or brick; no R-value is required. In the USA it reaches 16 inches in front of the door opening and 8 inches beyond each side of it, a 39-7/8 by 38-3/8 inch area (18 inches in front and 8 inches at the sides and back in Canada), plus under any horizontal chimney connector with 2 inches to spare on each side. On a non-combustible floor such as concrete, none is needed. The stove weighs about 575 pounds, so check whether the floor needs extra joists.

Optional: A blower with thermodisc, fresh-air intake parts, steatite cooking plates, a Dutch oven, a certified heat shield and floor protectors — the Gusto heats and cooks fully without any of them.
Does the Gusto need electricity?
No — it cooks and heats with wood alone, and no blower comes with it. The optional 130 CFM variable-speed blower with its thermodisc mounts on the back and plugs into a standard outlet; set it with the HI-LO-OFF knob once the stove has run about an hour, and with the thermodisc it starts and stops by itself with the stove's temperature. It adds up to about 2% efficiency; keep its cord off the stove and never run it underneath.
Can it go in a mobile home or an alcove?
A mobile home yes, an alcove no. In a mobile or manufactured home it needs the fresh-air intake kit, sold separately, with an insulated intake duct drawing outdoor air, a double-wall connector only, a 6-inch double-wall factory-built chimney at least 12 feet long, and the stove bolted to the structure; it never goes in a sleeping room, and the clearances are 6 inches at the back, 15 at the sides, 5 in a corner and 84 inches to the ceiling. The Gusto is not approved for an alcove installation.

No. The Torch Guys is an authorized Osburn dealer, and Osburn's limited lifetime warranty runs through your dealer — if you ever need to claim, we deal with Osburn on your behalf. The combustion-chamber welds and the cast-iron door frame are covered for life on parts with 5 years of labour; the ceramic glass for life on parts; the ash drawer, baffle, air tubes and trims 7 years; an optional blower 2 years. It applies to the original purchaser, lifetime parts are replaced once, installation must be by a qualified technician, and it is void if anything but cordwood is burned. Keep your invoice and the serial number from the plate on the back.
