About This Product

Superior DRC3035 35" Contemporary Direct Vent Gas Fireplace

A 29-1/4" by 19-1/2" view of the fire in a 35" contemporary cabinet, over a floor of Reflective Black crushed glass. The Superior DRC3035 is sealed combustion — it takes its air from outside and vents straight back out, top or rear, so it can go on an outside wall without a chimney. Natural gas runs 20,000 BTU/hr high and 15,000 low at 64.8% P4 efficiency, and the electronic intermittent pilot ignition backs up on four AA batteries in a power outage. from $2,319.

Choose the DRC3035 if you want a contemporary glass-media firebox in a 35" opening and you would rather pick the front yourself — the facade is a separate choice, not a fixed look, and the media bed can stay standard or change color with it.

It is not right if there is no route to an outside wall or roof. This is a sealed direct-vent firebox: it draws combustion air from outside and has to vent back out, top or rear. For an interior room with no venting path, a vent-free or an electric model is the one to look at instead. And it is a supplemental heater by design — if you are sizing a primary heat source for a large space, look at a dedicated heater-rated unit rather than asking this one to carry the room.

Specifications

Frame an opening 35-7/8" wide and 18-1/2" deep (with 1/2" drywall), allowing 38-3/4" of height for a top-vent run or 23-3/8" for a rear-vent one. Combustible mantel and side-wall clearances are read off drawings — see Figure 6 and Figure 5 on page 16 of the installation manual. It vents on 4.5"/7.5" Secure Vent rigid or Secure Flex components, with Z-Flex Model GA also listed; the SV4.5HT-2 horizontal termination fits every model in the series and the small-square SV4.5HTSS fits this 35". Tested and listed by PFS TECO to ANSI Z21.88-2019, report F13-094.

How the DRC3035 compares to the other DRC3000 sizes

Answers to common questions

What’s included, what’s required, and what’s optional?
  • Included in the box: 20,000 BTU/hr high on natural gas / 18,000 BTU/hr high on propane; Electronic Ignition System with battery backup (four AA); 29-1/4" x 19-1/2" glass viewing area; 5 lb bag of Reflective Black crushed glass media (the standard floor media); Vent restrictors, header shield, non-combustible board, front ramp and hookup wire; ANSI Z21.88 certified (PFS TECO listed).
  • Required to complete the installation, purchased separately: Front - a decorative facade with a protective mesh barrier screen; the fireplace ships without one, and the screen is part of the front; Venting - Secure Vent, Secure Flex or Z-Flex pipe and a termination sized for your run; Gas line and electrical - a gas line run by a qualified installer, and 120 VAC for the electronic ignition.
  • Optional: A driftwood log set, a porcelain liner kit, a decorative surround for the Vista facade, a blower, and a remote or wall control — the fireplace operates fully without them.
What goes on the firebox floor?

A 5 lb bag of Reflective Black crushed glass media ships with every DRC3035 — that is the standard firebox floor, at no extra cost. The Burning Display choice on this page swaps the look for Reflective Blue or Platinum crushed glass or the 25-piece River Rock kit. No more than 3 lb of glass media should be used in the 35" firebox, so one bag dresses it.

Will it work if the power goes out?

Yes — the fireplace keeps operating. The electronic intermittent pilot ignition uses external power in normal service, and four AA batteries provide backup for fireplace operation during an outage. The blower is the exception: it needs mains power and will not run on the batteries.

How do I vent it?

Top or rear, on Superior's 4.5"/7.5" Secure Vent rigid pipe or Secure Flex, with Z-Flex Model GA also listed as an approved component. Allow 38-3/4" of framing height for a top-vent run and 23-3/8" for a rear-vent one. The SV4.5HT-2 horizontal termination fits every model in the series, and the small-square SV4.5HTSS fits this 35". Send us your wall build-up and we will size the run with you.

How close can a mantel or a shelf sit above it?

Combustible mantel clearance depends on how deep the mantel is — see Figure 6 on page 16 of the installation manual, and Figure 5 on the same page for combustible side walls. You can also send us your mantel depth. We're here to help! The DRC3035 is uniquely suited to a utility shelf directly above the fireplace — shelves like these are commonly used for locating television sets — with a minimum of 47" from the base of the fireplace to the underside of combustible shelf materials on a top-vent run with a rigid 90-degree elbow, 49" with a flex elbow, or 41" rear-vented, and the space between the fireplace and the area above it must not be insulated.

Can it go in a bedroom or a manufactured home?

Yes — it is listed for installation in bedrooms and manufactured homes. In an aftermarket, permanently located, manufactured home (USA only) or mobile home it may be installed where not prohibited by local codes, and the appliance must be grounded to the chassis in accordance with local codes or the National Electrical Code / Canadian Electrical Code.

How does the warranty work if something goes wrong?

Superior warrants the fireplace, and The Torch Guys handles it for you — we register the appliance and, if you ever need to claim, we deal with the manufacturer on your behalf rather than handing you a phone number. Keep your invoice and the model number; we hold the rest on file.

Warranty

In the unlikely event your product experiences a defect, our technical team will guide you through the manufacturer’s warranty process. Here is a general outline of what to expect.

Due to the technical nature of our products, the manufacturer must perform troubleshooting to process a warranty claim. Your installer will need to troubleshoot the problem on-site while working in tandem with our technical team. If troubleshooting leads to what The Torch Guys deems as a defective part, we will submit a warranty claim to the manufacturer on your behalf. Before we submit the claim, we will ask you to review the terms and confirm your consent to proceed.

Once the claim is submitted, the manufacturer will review it and either approve or deny it. If they have all the information and accept the claim, your warranty replacement part(s) will begin processing for shipment. If, for any reason, the claim is denied or we need more information, we will notify you as soon as possible.

All warranties are processed as exchanges. You can expect to receive a prepaid return label for the defective part(s), which must be returned within 30 days of receiving the warranty replacement(s).

Warranty claims can take anywhere from 1-4 weeks to process, depending on the season. Given the length of time claims can take, we recommend you fire up your unit in late summer/early fall to ensure your existing fireplace is in good working order for the winter season.
