Superior DRT2035 35" Traditional Direct Vent Gas Fireplace
A 35" traditional direct-vent gas fireplace with a 29-1/4" W by 19-1/2" H view of the fire. The Superior DRT2035 is the Merit series: sealed combustion, so it takes its air from outside and vents straight back out, top or rear, and can go on an outside wall without a chimney. Natural gas runs 18,000 BTU/hr. Choose millivolt ignition, which lights with a piezo igniter and needs no power, or electronic ignition with battery backup. from $2,049.
Choose the DRT2035 if you want a traditional 35" firebox at the Merit price and are happy with the black interior it ships with — the ceramic and porcelain liners are an upgrade, not a purchase you have to make.
It is not right if you cannot frame an opening 35-7/8" wide, or if there is no route to an outside wall or roof — this is a sealed direct-vent firebox and it has to vent, so an interior room with no venting path needs a vent-free or an electric model instead. And if you would rather the front be part of the required choice than an optional extra, the Pro series is the closer fit.
Specifications
Frame an opening 35-7/8" wide and 18-1/2" deep, allowing 38-3/4" of height for a top-vent run or 23-3/8" for a rear-vent one. Combustible mantel and side-wall clearances are set by drawings — see Figures 5 and 6 on page 16 of the installation manual, and send us your mantel depth so we can read them with you. It vents on 4.5"/7.5" Secure Vent rigid or Secure Flex components. Listed by PFS to ANSI Z21.88, report F13-094.
How the DRT2035 compares to the other DRT2000 sizes
The three DRT2000 sizes share the same firebox design, ignition choices and liner range; they differ in width and output. This 35" runs 18,000 BTU/hr on natural gas at from $2,049, against the 40" at from $2,349 and the 45" at from $2,849. Frame to the size you pick — the framing width differs by five inches per step.

Required to complete the installation, purchased separately: Venting - Secure Vent or Secure Flex pipe and a termination sized for your run; Gas line and electrical - a gas line run by a qualified installer, and 120 VAC if you choose electronic ignition or add a blower.

Optional: A ceramic or porcelain liner kit — the firebox ships with a black interior, so this is an upgrade rather than a required choice; A Reflection or Craftsman decorative front — an upgrade to the included Vista facade, ordered separately; A blower, a remote or wall control, and a decorative surround.
Will it work if the power goes out?
Yes — both the millivolt and the electronic ignition models can run in a power outage. The millivolt model is a standing pilot system with a piezo igniter and needs no electricity at all. The electronic model does use external power, but four AA batteries back it up and keep the fireplace operating through an outage. The blower is the exception: on either model it needs mains power and will not run without it.
How do I vent it?
Top or rear, on Superior's 4.5"/7.5" Secure Vent rigid pipe or Secure Flex. Allow 38-3/4" of framing height for a top-vent run and 23-3/8" for a rear-vent one. Send us your wall build-up and we will size the run with you.
How close can a mantel sit above it?
Combustible mantel clearance depends on how deep the mantel is — see Figure 6 on page 16 of the installation manual; the combustible side-wall allowance is set by Figure 5 on the same page. You can also send us your mantel depth. We're here to help!
How does the warranty work if something goes wrong?
Superior warrants the fireplace, and The Torch Guys handles it for you — we register the appliance and, if you ever need to claim, we deal with the manufacturer on your behalf rather than handing you a phone number. Keep your invoice and the model number; we hold the rest on file.
