A 40" traditional direct-vent gas fireplace that vents by fan instead of draft. The Superior DRT6340TYN is rated 42,000 BTU/hr high and 26,500 low on natural gas at 47.0% P4, running its exhaust on compact 4-1/2"/7-1/2" Secure Vent rigid or Secure Flex flexible pipe with the LSMPVK power vent kit, purchased separately. Because a blower in the wall termination pulls the flue, the run can travel up to 110 feet and six elbows, and can even drop 3 feet below the firebox — routes a gravity vent cannot reach. Choose the power-vent DRT6340 when the fireplace has to go where a conventional vent cannot follow — an interior wall a long way from an outside wall, a basement, a room with no route up through the roof. It is the same 40" firebox as the standard DRT6340, and the oak log set and liner finish (porcelain black or two ceramic patterns) are still chosen here rather than fixed at the factory.
It is not right if you need a fire that keeps running when the power goes out, or if you need it to heat the room. The manual is explicit: this is a power vented fireplace that requires household electrical power to operate and will not operate during a power failure, and the DRT6300 Series is a decorative appliance that is not intended for use as an area heater. If outage operation matters, the standard gravity-vent DRT6340TEN runs on its own draft with battery backup; for everyday heat, shop a heater-rated direct-vent model instead.
Specifications
Frame an opening 50-3/4" wide with a 45" rough-opening height in 2x4 or larger lumber; the unit itself is 25-3/8" deep. Cut the exterior wall opening 10-1/2" x 12-1/8" about the vent centerline. Power venting allows up to 110 feet of total run with a minimum 10 feet horizontal, up to six elbows, 66 feet of vertical rise and up to 3 feet of drop below the unit; keep 1" of clearance to combustibles on vertical pipe and 3" above horizontal pipe. Allow 64" from the base of the appliance to the ceiling, and read combustible mantel height off Figure 5 on page 10 of the installation manual. A hearth extension is not required. Listed by PFS TECO to ANSI Z21.50:19, report F14-106, for elevations to 4,500 feet.
How the power-vent DRT6340 compares within the DRT6300 series
The 45" power-vent DRT6345TYN is the same design five inches wider, rated 48,000 BTU/hr high on natural gas, at from $8,419 against this 40" at from $7,579. If your vent can run conventionally, the gravity-vent DRT6340TEN shares this firebox at from $6,919, needs no power vent kit and keeps running in an outage — but it vents from the top only on larger 8"/11" pipe. Both power-vent sizes share the log set; the liner kits are size-specific.

Answers to common questions
Do I have to buy the power vent kit separately?
Yes. Every power-vent DRT6340 needs the LSMPVK power vent kit (cat. H7920) — it carries the powered wall termination, the SV4.5RCH termination adaptor, the horizontal firestop, the vacuum hose and the wiring hardware, and Superior lists it for use with this model only. Superior's price book sells it on its own line and states plainly that the power vent model requires the kit, purchased separately. Add it below the cart and we will ship it with the fireplace. If you are running flexible vent you also need the 87L00 flex adaptor and the F4502 flex-to-termination kit, which are not in the kit.
Will it work if the power goes out?
No — and we would rather you knew that before you buy. Superior's manual says it twice: this is a power vented fireplace that requires household electrical power to operate and will not operate during a power failure. The four AA batteries behind the wall switch run the remote receiver, not the fireplace. If outage operation is what you need, the standard gravity-vent DRT6340TEN is the model to look at.
How do I vent it?
Horizontally, out through an exterior wall, on Superior's 4-1/2" inner / 7-1/2" outer Secure Vent rigid components, Secure Flex flexible components or Z-Flex Model GA pipe — no other manufacturer's components are approved. The blower in the termination lets the run go up to 110 feet in total with a minimum of 10 feet horizontal, up to six elbows, 66 feet of vertical rise, and as much as 3 feet of drop below the firebox. Where can the fireplace and the vent termination go?
Almost anywhere with an exterior wall in reach. The firebox is approved at zero clearance to combustibles on all sides with its factory spacers, needs 64" from its base to the ceiling and 3 feet of service clearance at the front, and it is listed for bedrooms and manufactured (mobile) homes. Combustible mantel height comes off Figure 5 on page 10 of the installation manual — send us your mantel depth and we will read it with you; non-combustible mantels can sit at any height. Outside, keep 3" above the termination to any overhead combustible projection, and remember the termination is hot during and after a burn — keep children away from it and keep shrubs and plantings clear.
How does the warranty work if something goes wrong?
Superior covers the DRT6340TYN with a 20-year limited warranty on the body, firebox and barrier, with one year on the burner, gas components, gaskets and logs — and The Torch Guys handles it for you. We register the appliance and, if you ever need to claim, we deal with the manufacturer on your behalf rather than handing you a phone number.
