About This Product

Superior DRT63ST 40" See-Through Direct Vent Gas Fireplace

One fire finishing two spaces — two rooms, or a room and the patio. The Superior DRT63ST is a 40" see-through direct-vent gas fireplace: 57,000 BTU/hr high / 37,000 low on natural gas at 60.9% AFUE, sealed combustion vented out the top on 8"/11" DV Lock pipe, with electronic ignition backed up by four AA batteries. The aged oak fiber log set, heavy-duty grate, platinum embers, volcanic stone and the full-function remote all ship in the box. from $10,649.

Choose the DRT63ST if you want one fireplace working as the focal point of two spaces — a wall between living and dining room, a room divider, or an indoor/outdoor wall onto a screened porch or lanai with the outdoor window kit — and you can frame the 52-1/8" x 47-3/8" opening it needs. Bedrooms and manufactured homes are on its PFS listing.

It is not right if only one room needs the fire — a see-through's second face is a window into the next space, not a wall, and Superior's single-sided DRT6300 series puts the same traditional scale against a solid wall. And if there is no route up from the unit to a roof or outside-wall termination, this sealed top-vent firebox cannot go there — a vent-free or electric model is the one to look at instead.

Specifications

Frame an opening 52-1/8" wide by 47-3/8" high (fireplace base to top framing member) by 26-3/8" deep, in 2 x 4 or larger lumber. Clearances to combustibles run 0" at the back, sides and floor, with 72" from the bottom of the unit to the ceiling; a combustible mantel is charted from 7" above the appliance at 2" of depth to 17" at 12". It vents on 8"/11" DV Lock components only — vertically 6 to 60 ft through the roof, or through a wall with a minimum 2 ft vertical section and one 90-degree elbow. Listed by PFS to ANSI Z21.88, report F14-107, for elevations to 4,500 ft.

How the standard DRT63ST compares to the Power Vent model

The DRT63ST comes two ways. This standard model vents on its own draft through 8"/11" DV Lock pipe at from $10,649. The Power Vent DRT63STTYN-B at from $10,939 shares the firebox and the 57,000 BTU/hr rating but vents on smaller 4.5"/7.5" Secure Vent rigid and flexible components, requires the power vent kit purchased separately, and carries the higher 65.1% AFUE rating. If a conventional gravity run fits your plan, this is the simpler buy.

Answers to common questions

What’s included, what’s required, and what’s optional?
  • Included in the box: 57,000 BTU/hr high / 37,000 low (natural gas); Electronic ignition (SIT Proflame), switchable to standing pilot; Battery backup — four AA batteries in the receiver; Ceramic glass on both sides; Mesh safety-barrier screens, one per side (fitted before operation); Aged oak high density fiber log set with heavy duty grate; Platinum glowing ember and volcanic stone media; Full-function remote control and receiver; Factory flexible gas connector and shutoff valve; ANSI Z21.88 certified (PFS TECO listed); 20-year limited warranty.
  • Required to complete the installation, purchased separately: Interior Panels - the interior liner for the firebox; the fireplace ships without liner panels and one of the three kits on this page must be installed before operation; Venting - 8"/11" DV Lock components and a vertical or horizontal termination sized for your install; Gas line and 120 VAC household power - run by a qualified installer; the electronic ignition requires household power.
  • Optional: The outdoor window kit (light- or dark-tinted), needed only if you install it indoor/outdoor — as an indoor/indoor see-through the fireplace operates fully without it — plus touch-up paint and replacement embers and stone.
Will it work if the power goes out?

Yes — the electronic ignition uses external power, but four AA batteries in the receiver back it up and keep the fireplace operating through an outage. You can also switch it to standing-pilot mode at the rocker switch in the control compartment, which keeps a pilot lit whenever the fireplace is off.

How do I vent it?

Out the top, on the 8" inner / 11" outer 8" DV Lock components the appliance is listed with — no other manufacturer's vent may be used. Vertical roof runs go from 6 to 60 ft of straight venting; a horizontal wall termination needs a minimum 2 ft vertical section and one 90-degree elbow, with 20 ft of horizontal run maximum. The provided vent restrictor is installed for every configuration. Send us your wall build-up and we will size the run with you.

Can it face my patio or screened porch?

Yes — the DRT63ST is designed for indoor/outdoor installation, including screened porches and lanais, with one of the outdoor window kits (light- or dark-tinted tempered glass with the outdoor safety guard) fitted on the outside face. The control side must be on the indoor side, the base keeps a 6" moisture clearance to the outdoor surface, and outdoor hearth material sits at least 6" below the base.

How close can a mantel or shelf sit above it?

That depends on its depth: the manual charts combustible mantel and shelf clearance from 7" above the top of the appliance for a 2"-deep mantel to 17" for a 12"-deep one, and window sills and other projections follow the same chart. Non-combustible mantels may sit at any height, the ceiling must stay 72" above the unit's bottom, and the space directly above the appliance is never insulated.

Can I run it on propane?

Yes — by choosing Propane on this page, which adds Superior's certified electronic conversion kit (GCK-E-MONT-B-NP, with its burner assembly) to the order. The fireplace itself ships built for natural gas at 57,000 BTU/hr; converted to propane it runs 50,000 to 40,000 BTU/hr, and a qualified service agency installs the kit in the field.

How does the warranty work if something goes wrong?

Superior warrants the fireplace — a 20-year limited warranty on the body, firebox and barrier — and The Torch Guys handles it for you: we register the appliance and, if you ever need to claim, we deal with the manufacturer on your behalf rather than handing you a phone number. Keep your invoice and the model number; we hold the rest on file.

Warranty

In the unlikely event your product experiences a defect, our technical team will guide you through the manufacturer’s warranty process. Here is a general outline of what to expect.

Due to the technical nature of our products, the manufacturer must perform troubleshooting to process a warranty claim. Your installer will need to troubleshoot the problem on-site while working in tandem with our technical team. If troubleshooting leads to what The Torch Guys deems as a defective part, we will submit a warranty claim to the manufacturer on your behalf. Before we submit the claim, we will ask you to review the terms and confirm your consent to proceed.

Once the claim is submitted, the manufacturer will review it and either approve or deny it. If they have all the information and accept the claim, your warranty replacement part(s) will begin processing for shipment. If, for any reason, the claim is denied or we need more information, we will notify you as soon as possible.

All warranties are processed as exchanges. You can expect to receive a prepaid return label for the defective part(s), which must be returned within 30 days of receiving the warranty replacement(s).

Warranty claims can take anywhere from 1-4 weeks to process, depending on the season. Given the length of time claims can take, we recommend you fire up your unit in late summer/early fall to ensure your existing fireplace is in good working order for the winter season.
