Choose the Power Vent DRT63ST if you want one fireplace as the focal point of two spaces — a wall between rooms, or an indoor/outdoor wall onto a screened porch or lanai with the outdoor window kit — and your venting plan calls for the power-vent system on its smaller 4.5"/7.5" rigid and flexible components rather than the standard model's 8"/11" gravity pipe.
It is not right if the standard DRT63STTEN already fits your venting plan — it shares this firebox and vents on its own draft through 8"/11" DV Lock pipe, without the separate $898 power vent kit this model requires. Buy the power vent because your vent design calls for it, not for the look: both faces of the fire are identical.
Specifications
Frame an opening 52-1/8" wide by 47-3/8" high (fireplace base to top framing member) by 26-3/8" deep, in 2 x 4 or larger lumber. Clearances to combustibles run 0" at the back, sides and floor, with 72" from the bottom of the unit to the ceiling; a combustible mantel is charted from 7" above the appliance at 2" of depth to 17" at 12". The power-vent model vents on Secure Vent 4.5"/7.5" rigid and flexible direct-vent components and requires the LSMPVK power vent kit, sold separately — send us your vent routing and we will spec the run with you. Built to ANSI Z21.88 / CSA 2.33 and listed by PFS, report F14-107, for elevations to 4,500 ft.

The DRT63ST comes two ways. This Power Vent model runs 65.1% AFUE and vents on compact 4.5"/7.5" Secure Vent rigid and flexible components with the power vent kit purchased separately — from $10,939 before the kit. The standard DRT63STTEN-B at from $10,649 shares the firebox and the 57,000 BTU/hr rating, vents on its own draft through 8"/11" DV Lock pipe at 60.9% AFUE, and needs no fan kit. If a conventional gravity run fits your plan, the standard model is the simpler buy.

Why does this model need a power vent kit, and is it included?
No — the book requires the LSMPVK power vent kit for the TYN power-vent models and sells it separately, at $898. The power-vent design is also why this model vents on the compact 4.5"/7.5" Secure Vent rigid and flexible components instead of the standard model's 8"/11" gravity pipe. Call us with your vent routing and we will quote the kit and the run together.
Will it work if the power goes out?
Plan for it to be off during an outage. Superior lists battery-backed electronic ignition as a DRT63ST family feature, but this model's power vent runs on household electricity and no Superior document addresses operating the power-vent model with the power out. If outage operation matters to you, the standard DRT63STTEN keeps running on its four-AA battery backup.
Can it face my patio or screened porch?
Yes — the DRT63ST is designed for indoor/outdoor installation, including screened porches and lanais, with one of the outdoor window kits (light- or dark-tinted tempered glass with the outdoor safety guard) fitted on the outside face; the kit's instructions name this DRT63STTYN-B among the models they serve. The control side must be on the indoor side, and the base keeps a 6" moisture clearance to the outdoor surface.
How close can a mantel or shelf sit above it?
That depends on its depth: the manual charts combustible mantel and shelf clearance from 7" above the top of the appliance for a 2"-deep mantel to 17" for a 12"-deep one, and window sills and other projections follow the same chart. Non-combustible mantels may sit at any height, the ceiling must stay 72" above the unit's bottom, and the space directly above the appliance is never insulated.
Can I run it on propane?
Yes — by choosing Propane on this page, which adds the family's certified electronic conversion kit (GCK-E-MONT-B-NP, with its burner assembly) to the order. Every unit ships from the factory built for natural gas — Superior's brochure lists the power-vent models as natural gas only as factory-built — so the kit is a field conversion installed by a qualified service agency. If you are converting, talk to us first and we will confirm the configuration for your install.
How does the warranty work if something goes wrong?
Superior warrants the fireplace — a 20-year limited warranty on the body, firebox and barrier — and The Torch Guys handles it for you: we register the appliance and, if you ever need to claim, we deal with the manufacturer on your behalf rather than handing you a phone number. Keep your invoice and the model number; we hold the rest on file.
