Glow-Ramp Vent Free Gas Log Burner
The burner alone, for a replacement or for Boulder Mountain logs you already own. The Superior Glow-Ramp vent free burner puts three burners in one base — yellow flames at the rear, a middle burner that glows the fiber ramp log, and a flat front ember pan — in an 18" length for 18" Glow-Ramp log sets and a 24" length for 24" and 30" sets: 28,000 BTU/hr high on the 18" millivolt and variable burners (30,000 with electronic ignition), 39,000 on the 24", natural gas or propane, heater rated at 99% for a masonry fireplace, UL127 factory-built fireplace or listed vent free firebox, from $1,019, with a three-year limited warranty on the grate.
Choose it if you already have — or are buying separately — a Superior Boulder Mountain log set and need the burner under it: the 18" burner for 18" logs, the 24" burner for 24" or 30" logs. Pick the millivolt burner for a fire that runs with no power and add the wall switch, on/off remote or thermostatic remote you want; the variable-flame burner for five flame heights and a thermostat mode on its ProFlame remote; the electronic burner for a self-lighting pilot and the EcoFlow touchscreen remote with thermostat and weekday/weekend modes, all on batteries. If you do not yet own the logs, a Boulder Mountain log set is the right purchase — it comes with this burner.
It is not a complete log set — no logs ship with it, and it is never run without a Glow-Ramp log set and its ember material in place; nor will it take another brand's logs. It is not for a bedroom, a bathroom or a recreational vehicle, not a primary heat source except during a power outage, and not for a room that cannot give it 50 cubic feet for every 1,000 BTU/hr of gas appliances in it. It does not go in a factory-built fireplace whose own instructions exclude unvented gas logs, behind glass doors that will be closed while it burns, or in a fireplace that cannot give it 16" to a side wall, 42" to the ceiling and noncombustible facing above the opening.
Specifications
Under 18" logs the 18" burner needs a firebox at least 26" wide at the front, 20" at the rear, 17" high and 14.5" deep; the 24" burner needs 29" x 22" x 17" x 14.5" under 24" logs and 32" x 22" x 21" x 14.5" under 30" logs. A side wall stays 16" from the side of the fireplace and the ceiling 42" above the top of the fireplace opening; curtains, furniture and other flammable objects stay 36" from the front of the heater and 42" from its top; combustible material beside the opening — a mantel leg or bookshelf — follows the side-clearance chart in Figure 4 on page 10 of the burner manual; and the fireplace keeps 14" to combustible flooring at floor level or the burner sits 5" above it. The wall directly above the opening carries noncombustible material at least 1/2" thick for a minimum of 8" — 12" of facing needs no hood and the GA6050 hood brings that down to 8" on the 24" burner — and combustible-mantel heights are charted by mantel depth in Figures 6 and 7 on pages 11 and 12 of the installation manual. Inlet pressure runs 5" to 10.5" W.C. on natural gas and 11" to 14" W.C. on propane through a 1/2" or larger line; the millivolt burner's regulator takes a 3/8" NPT inlet, the electronic burner's 1/2" NPT, and each burner is built for one gas and cannot be converted. Ratings: 19,000-28,000 BTU/hr on the 18" millivolt and variable burners on natural gas (21,000 low on propane), 21,000-30,000 on the 18" electronic burner (24,000 low on propane), 25,000-39,000 on the 24" millivolt and variable burners (27,000 low on propane) and 26,000-39,000 on the 24" electronic burner (30,000 low on propane).

Answers to common questions
Which Glow-Ramp burner do I need for my logs?
The 18" burner (BGE18) takes the 18" Boulder Mountain set; the 24" burner (BGE2436) takes both the 24" and the 30" sets — there is no 30" burner. Under 18" logs the firebox must be at least 26" wide at the front, 20" at the rear, 17" high and 14.5" deep; under 24" logs 29" x 22" x 17" x 14.5"; under 30" logs 32" x 22" x 21" x 14.5". These burners are listed for Superior's Glow-Ramp logs; installing any other logs on them is prohibited.

On the 24" burner it is how a noncombustible facing of only 8" to 12" works where 12" is otherwise wanted, and it shortens every minimum mantel height (Figure 7 of the manual instead of Figure 6); FM100 Floor Media Kit for extra lava rock, embers and cinders on the firebox floor; CIKA Gas Appliance Installation Kit where local codes allow a flexible connection — the burner operates fully without any of them.
Does it need a chimney or a vent?
No. It is a vent free room heater, design-certified to ANSI Z21.11.2, run with the fireplace damper closed so all of its heat stays in the room — heater rated at 99% efficiency. It takes its combustion air from the room, so the space must give it 50 cubic feet for every 1,000 BTU/hr of gas appliances in it, and the fireplace screen stays closed with any glass doors fully open while it burns. State or local codes in some areas prohibit vent free appliances, so check yours before you buy. Expect a paper-burning smell and some orange flame during the first few hours of use — open the damper or a window until it clears.
Millivolt, variable flame or electronic ignition — what is the difference?
The millivolt burner has a standing pilot you light with a push-button igniter and a HI-LO flame knob at the burner; it needs no power and is remote-ready, so we pair it here with Superior's GWMS2 wall switch, RCKIT4001 on/off remote or TRC thermostat remote kit if you want one. The variable-flame burner is a different burner with a variable valve: its ProFlame remote and receiver come in the box and give on/off, five flame heights and manual or thermostat modes. The electronic burner lights its own pilot from a battery-powered control module and comes with the EcoFlow touchscreen remote — manual, thermostat and weekday/weekend program modes, three flame levels, a child lock — again with no household power.
Will it work in a power outage?
Yes, whichever one you choose — nothing on this page uses house current, and no Glow-Ramp burner may be connected to an external electrical source. The millivolt and variable burners run on their own gas valve, with a push-button igniter (or a match) to light the standing pilot. The electronic burner runs its pilot and control module from a C-cell battery pack on the fireplace floor, and its touchscreen remote from four AAA batteries. In an outage the heater may serve as your primary heat.
Can I put a mantel or a shelf above it, and where can it not go?
A mantel is fine at the right height. How high depends on how deep the mantel is and whether you fit the GA6050 hood — the minimums are charted in Figure 6 on page 11 and Figure 7 on page 12 of the installation manual — and at least 8" of noncombustible facing must run above the opening; 12" of facing needs no hood, and on the 24" burner the hood brings that requirement down to 8". If a clearance still cannot be met, the mantel has to be raised or removed, and if none of that is possible this is not the right fireplace for the burner. Never install it in a bedroom, a bathroom or a recreational vehicle, within 36" of curtains or furniture, or in a windy, drafty or high-traffic spot; Massachusetts bars vent free logs from bedrooms and bathrooms outright. Can it go in a manufactured home?
Yes — in an aftermarket, permanently located manufactured (mobile) home where local codes allow, in a fireplace or firebox that meets the same opening and clearance rules as any other install; never in a recreational vehicle.

No. Innovative Hearth Products' Limited Three Year Warranty on Superior gas log sets requires the product to be bought through a listed IHP supplier with proof of purchase and installed by an approved licensed contractor, and The Torch Guys is an authorized Superior dealer — we keep your invoice on file and deal with the manufacturer on your behalf if you ever need to claim. The grate carries three years, the gas components and the remote one year from installation, other parts 90 days; the warranty stays with the original owner. Keep the model number from the grate's data plate.
