Nature-Flame Vent Free Gas Log Burner
The burner alone, for a replacement or for logs you already own: Superior's Nature-Flame pan burner in 18" or 24", with its integral grate, ODS safety pilot, both ember materials, flex gas hose and anchoring hardware in the carton. The 18" burner is rated 30,000 BTU/hr on natural gas (29,000 on propane as a millivolt burner, 30,000 as electronic) and takes the 18" Nature-Flame logs; the 24" burner is rated 39,000 BTU/hr (36,000 on propane) and takes both the 24" and the 30" logs. Pick a millivolt standing pilot — on its own, or as a kit with the GWMS2 wall switch, RCKIT4001 on/off remote or TRC thermostatic remote — or electronic ignition with the EcoFlow touchscreen remote; nothing on this page needs a power outlet. from $1,009, with a five-year limited warranty on the grate.
Choose it if you already have a set of Superior Nature-Flame logs — Granite Ridge or Silverstone Timber in 18", 24" or 30" — and need the burner under them, or you are replacing a Nature-Flame burner in a masonry or UL127 fireplace or a listed vent free firebox that already meets the opening and clearance rules. Buying logs for the first time? Choose a Granite Ridge or Silverstone Timber log set instead — each already includes this burner.
It is not a complete log set — no logs ship with it, and it is approved only under Superior's Nature-Flame logs. It is not a primary heat source (it is a supplemental heater), it cannot go in a bedroom or bathroom, in a recreational vehicle, in a factory-built fireplace whose instructions exclude unvented gas logs, or behind glass doors that will be closed while it runs, and it must run behind a fireplace screen. The room needs 50 cubic feet for every 1,000 BTU/hr of gas appliances in it — about 1,500 cubic feet for the 18" burner and 1,950 for the 24" — and the wall above the opening must be non-combustible for at least 8".
Specifications
The fireplace opening is set by the logs the burner will carry: 26" front width, 17" rear, 17" high and 15" deep with 18" logs on the 18" burner; 29" front, 22" rear, 19" high with 24" logs and 33" front, 25" rear, 19" high with 30" logs on the 24" burner, both 15" deep. A side wall stays 16" from the side of the fireplace and 42" above the top of the opening, with 36" clear in front; the facing directly above the opening must be non-combustible for 12" on the 24" burner, or for 8" if you fit the GA6050 hood, and a combustible mantel sits 14" to 24" above the opening depending on its depth and the log size — see Figures 6 and 7 on page 11 of the installation manual, or ask us. At floor level the burner keeps 14" from combustible flooring or is raised 5" on non-combustible material. Inlet pressure runs 5" to 10.5" W.C. on natural gas and 11" to 14" W.C. on propane through a 3/8" NPT connection; each burner is built for one gas and cannot be converted, and propane needs an installer-supplied external regulator. The base anchors to the fireplace floor with the masonry screws in its hardware package.

Answers to common questions
Does it need a chimney or a vent?
No — every configuration on this page is a vent free room heater approved to ANSI Z21.11.2: it burns room air with the fireplace damper closed, so nothing goes up the chimney and all the heat stays in the room, with the ODS pilot as the safety. The room has to be big enough — 50 cubic feet for every 1,000 BTU/hr of gas appliances in it, so about 1,500 cubic feet for a 30,000 BTU/hr burner and 1,950 for the 39,000 BTU/hr burner — or it needs ventilation openings. State and local codes in some areas prohibit vent free appliances, and Massachusetts bars them from bedrooms and bathrooms, so check your codes before you buy.

Optional: Black Fireplace Hood (fits 28"-48" openings) — the part that lets you install with less clearance. It shortens every minimum mantel height, and on the 24" burner it is how a non-combustible facing of only 8" to 12" works where 12" is otherwise wanted; Floor Media Kit (volcanic stone, embers, cinders) and Decorative Volcanic Stone to dress the fireplace floor — the burner runs fully without them where the clearances are already met.
What size fireplace opening does it need?
It depends on the logs you will run, not on the burner alone — the requirement is the same for every fuel and ignition. With 18" logs the opening must be 26" wide at the front, 17" across the back, 17" high and 15" deep; with 24" logs 29" front, 22" rear and 19" high; with 30" logs 33" front, 25" rear and 19" high, all 15" deep. The rear log sits against the back of the firebox, so the rear width is the one that catches people out.
How close can a mantel, the wall or the ceiling be?
The clearances are the same for every configuration here except where the 18" size is a little more forgiving. The ceiling must be at least 42" above the top of the fireplace opening and a side wall 16" from the fireplace; the wall directly above the opening must be non-combustible (slate, marble or tile at least 1/2" thick) for at least 8" — 12" or more and you are done, and on the 24" and 30" sizes the GA6050 fireplace hood is what makes a facing of only 8" to 12" work (the 18" needs no hood at all). Under 8" the facing has to be extended to at least 8"; if it cannot be, this is not the right fireplace for it. A combustible mantel needs, from the top of the opening to its underside: 2-1/2" deep 14" (18" set) or 18" (24"/30"), 6" deep 17" or 20", 8" deep 19" or 22", 10" deep 20" or 24"; with the hood those drop to 8", 12", 15", 18" and 20" for 12" deep. Shelves and window sills count. See Figures 6 and 7 on page 11 of the installation manual, or send us your mantel depth and we will check it with you. In a vent free firebox the firebox maker's clearances also apply.
Will it work in a power outage?
Yes, whichever ignition you pick — nothing on this page plugs into the wall. The millivolt standing-pilot burner lights from a piezo igniter and runs on its own valve, and the electronic-ignition burner runs its control module from a battery pack with four AAA batteries in the EcoFlow remote. It may even serve as your primary heat source while the power is out; the rest of the time it is a supplemental heater.
Which ignition should I pick, and what does each control do?
All five choices sell the same Nature-Flame burner width in your fuel; they differ in how you light and run it. The four Standing Pilot rungs are the millivolt burner — a piezo lights the pilot, the valve powers itself, and you set the flame anywhere between HI and LO on the knob. The manual rung is that burner alone, run from its own switch; the wall switch rung adds the GWMS2 wall switch (and enables the burner's AUTO position); the remote control rung adds the RCKIT4001 remote and its receiver; the thermostatic remote rung adds the TRC receiver and thermostat remote so the set holds a room temperature. Each is a kit — the burner ships remote-ready and the installer wires the control to the terminals on its valve. Electronic Ignition is a different burner: it lights the pilot on command from the included EcoFlow touchscreen remote, runs on a battery pack, and gives manual, thermostat and weekday/weekend program modes with three flame heights, a child lock and a 95 F room shutdown. Either way the burner and ratings are the same.
Can it go in a manufactured or mobile home?
Yes — every burner on this page is approved for a permanently located manufactured (mobile) home where local codes do not prohibit it, in a fireplace or firebox that meets the same size and clearance rules as any other install. It is never approved for a recreational vehicle.
Does buying from The Torch Guys affect the Superior warranty?
No. IHP's five-year limited warranty on Superior vent free gas log sets applies to product bought through a listed supplier of IHP, and The Torch Guys is an authorized Superior dealer — we register the set and, if you ever need to claim, we deal with the manufacturer on your behalf rather than handing you a phone number. The logs and grate carry the full five years, gas components and the remote one year, other parts 90 days; the warranty stays with the original owner. Keep your invoice and the model number from the data plate on the grate; we hold the rest on file.
