About This Product

Superior VRE4672 72" Outdoor Linear Vent-Free Gas Fireplace

A 72" outdoor linear vent-free gas fireplace — a 72" x 16" open firebox with no flue to run at all. The Superior VRE4672 burns 65,000 BTU/hr high / 42,000 low on natural gas, switched Hi/Lo from its wall-mounted control, and carries full-spectrum LED interior lighting as standard — dimmable color you can run with or without the fire. Diamond Crystal crushed-glass media and the tempered-glass windshields are in the box, and the single-sided firebox converts to see-through with a kit. from $8,669.

Choose the VRE4672 if you want a linear fire feature in an outdoor wall without building a chimney or vent run — the firebox needs only a gas line, a GFCI outlet and a ventilated non-combustible enclosure, and the media color is the only look decision on this page.

It is not right for any indoor room. This is an outdoor-only appliance — the manual bars buildings, garages and every enclosed space outright. For an indoor wall, Superior's DRL linear direct-vent fireplaces are the route to the same ribbon-of-flame look; for an outdoor opening in a traditional shape, the Superior VRE3200 outdoor fireplace is the one to compare.

Specifications

Frame the single-sided firebox 76-1/2" wide by 33-3/4" high by 16-1/4" deep in metal studs — wood studs are not permitted — on a flat, level, non-combustible surface (or one layer of 1/2" cement board over a combustible one), never below grade. Keep a combustible side wall 6" clear and the ceiling 46-1/2" clear, and give the enclosure 18 square inches of cross ventilation per side with the supplied vents, 3 to 4 inches off the floor. Listed by PFS TECO to ANSI Z21.97 / CSA 2.41, report 20-024, at elevations to 4,500 feet.

How the VRE4672 compares to the other VRE4600 sizes

All four VRE4600 sizes share the same firebox height, depth, LED lighting, controls and media choices; they differ in width and output. This 72" runs 65,000 BTU/hr high at from $8,669, against the 36" at 31,000 BTU/hr, from $5,659; the 48" at 43,500 BTU/hr, from $6,379; and the 60" at 50,000 BTU/hr, from $7,099. Framing width steps 12" per size; height and depth stay identical.

Features

  • A 72" linear ribbon of flame in a 76" outdoor firebox, framed by tempered-glass windshields
  • Vent-free and outdoor-rated: no flue to run — the enclosure just needs the supplied cross-ventilation vents
  • 65,000 BTU/hr high / 42,000 low on natural gas, switched Hi/Lo from the wall-mounted control
  • Full-spectrum LED interior lighting standard — dimmable RGB that runs with or without the fire
  • Diamond Crystal crushed-glass media ships in the box, with Onyx Black and Sapphire Blue upgrades on this page
  • Converts from single-sided to see-through by removing the back panel and adding the conversion kit

Answers to common questions

Does it need a chimney, a vent, or electricity?

No chimney and no vent, on any configuration of this page — the VRE4672 is an outdoor vent-free firebox, so there is no top or rear venting at all. It does need two connections: a gas line run by a qualified installer, and a 120 VAC GFCI outlet under the fireplace, because the electronic gas valve runs off a 7.5 VDC adaptor and the LED lighting off a 12 VDC adaptor. The enclosure itself needs 18 square inches of cross ventilation per side — the stainless vents for it ship in the box, and skipping them can void the warranty.

Where can I install it — does a covered patio count?

Any location that qualifies as outdoors under ANSI Z21.97 — walls on all sides with no roof, a roof with no more than two side walls, or a roof with three side walls where at least 30% of the perimeter stays permanently open. It can never go in a building, garage or any enclosed space, and Massachusetts adds its own rules (527 CMR 30, licensed installer, no bedrooms or bathrooms). The enclosure must be framed in metal studs on a non-combustible or cement-board-protected surface, never below grade. Send us a photo of the spot and we will check it with you.

What’s included, what’s required, and what’s optional?
  • Included in the box: 65,000 BTU/hr high / 42,000 low on natural gas (60,000 / 45,000 on propane with the LPK4 kit); Electronic ignition (IPI/CPI) with Hi/Lo control from the wall-mounted RGB control assembly; Full-spectrum RGB LED interior lighting with dimmer; Five 5 lb bags of Diamond Crystal crushed glass media — the standard burner-pan media; Two 7-inch-tall tempered-glass windshields with supports — required whenever the fireplace is running; Stainless hood, LED tray, power adaptors, enclosure vents, manual gas shut-off valve and pilot hood; ANSI Z21.97 outdoor-listed (PFS TECO Report 20-024); 20-year limited warranty on body, firebox, and barrier.
  • Required to complete the installation, purchased separately: Gas Line - 3/4" black iron recommended, run by a qualified installer to the supplied shut-off and flex connector; Electrical - a 120 VAC GFCI outlet in a weatherproof double-gang box under the fireplace, for the valve and LED adaptors; Enclosure - a non-combustible metal-stud enclosure with the cross-ventilation openings the supplied vents serve.
  • Optional: Media color upgrades above the cart, and the remotes, outdoor weather cover and see-through conversion kit below it — the fireplace operates fully without them.
Can it run on propane?

Yes — the Propane selection on this page is the same firebox with Superior's LPK4 conversion kit added to your order. Every VRE4672 leaves the factory built for natural gas, and a qualified service agency installs the kit in the field. On propane the fireplace rates 60,000 BTU/hr high / 45,000 low, against 65,000 / 42,000 on natural gas. Propane tanks stay outdoors, need step-down regulators, and should be at least 100 lb capacity.

Can I see the fire from both sides?

Yes, with the conversion — every VRE4672 ships single-sided, and removing the rear back panel plus adding the 72" see-through conversion kit (LVOST72, with its extra glass windshields and clips) opens the second face. The see-through configuration frames 15" deep and needs 72" of clearance to a combustible side wall, so decide before you frame. We sell the VRE4672 in its see-through configuration on its own page as well — ask us and we will point you to the right build for your wall.

What about rain and weather?

It is built to live outdoors, but moisture is the thing to manage on every model: after heavy rain or high humidity, light the fireplace and let it dry out for at least 30 minutes while you monitor from a distance, and plan drainage under the enclosure so water never stands at the valve. The manual recommends a weatherproof cover when the fireplace is not in use — the stainless BLWS72-B cover is the matching option — and any combustible cover must come off before you light it.

How does the warranty work if something goes wrong?

Superior warrants the fireplace, and The Torch Guys handles it for you — we register the appliance and, if you ever need to claim, we deal with the manufacturer on your behalf rather than handing you a phone number. The body, firebox and barrier carry a 20-year limited warranty; note the enclosure's cross-ventilation requirement, since skipping it can void coverage. Keep your invoice and the model number; we hold the rest on file.

Warranty

In the unlikely event your product experiences a defect, our technical team will guide you through the manufacturer’s warranty process. Here is a general outline of what to expect.

Due to the technical nature of our products, the manufacturer must perform troubleshooting to process a warranty claim. Your installer will need to troubleshoot the problem on-site while working in tandem with our technical team. If troubleshooting leads to what The Torch Guys deems as a defective part, we will submit a warranty claim to the manufacturer on your behalf. Before we submit the claim, we will ask you to review the terms and confirm your consent to proceed.

Once the claim is submitted, the manufacturer will review it and either approve or deny it. If they have all the information and accept the claim, your warranty replacement part(s) will begin processing for shipment. If, for any reason, the claim is denied or we need more information, we will notify you as soon as possible.

All warranties are processed as exchanges. You can expect to receive a prepaid return label for the defective part(s), which must be returned within 30 days of receiving the warranty replacement(s).

Warranty claims can take anywhere from 1-4 weeks to process, depending on the season. Given the length of time claims can take, we recommend you fire up your unit in late summer/early fall to ensure your existing fireplace is in good working order for the winter season.
