A 36" louvered wood-burning fireplace with an insulated firebox and a full white stacked refractory interior. The Superior WCT2036 is a UL127-listed factory-built fireplace: frame it into a flat wall or a corner, run 8" snap-lock double-wall chimney up through the roof, and burn dry, well-seasoned hardwood. The louvered face circulates room air around the firebox and accepts an optional fan or variable-speed blower, and a built-in gas line knockout keeps the door open to a gas log set later. from $1,129.
Choose the WCT2036 if you want a real wood fire in new construction or a remodel without masonry — and you want the louvered, heat-circulating face so a fan or blower can push the warmth into the room instead of just radiating it.
It is not right if there is no straight route up through the roof — this is a natural-draft wood fireplace that needs at least 14.5 feet of vertical 8" chimney terminating above the roofline, and it is a supplemental-heat fire, not a furnace. If you need to vent out a side wall, or want fire at the press of a button, a direct-vent gas fireplace such as the Superior DRT3000 series is the one to look at instead.
Frame an opening 38-1/4" wide by 38-5/8" high by 22" deep — corner framing dimensions are published too. Keep 3/4" of air space at the back and sides (not required at the nailing flanges), 14" from a perpendicular wall to the opening, and 1" around the chimney pipe. Combustible trim clearances above the fireplace opening and the top louver are read off Figures 4 and 5 on page 6 of the installation manual. In front, lay noncombustible floor protection 16" deep and 8" past each side of the opening (52" x 16"). The chimney runs 14.5 to 50 feet of 8" snap-lock double-wall pipe with up to two 30-degree elbow sets. Listed to UL127, PFS report F09-171.
Same firebox family, two decisions. Face: the WCT2036 is the louvered, circulating model that takes a fan or blower at from $1,129; the radiant WRT2036 has the cleaner face, takes no blower, and runs from $1,069. Size: the WCT2042 steps the opening up to 42" at from $1,299 — frame to the size you pick.
None of the chimney ships with the firebox — it is all configured to your roof. The WCT2036 vents on Superior's 8" snap-lock double-wall wood-burning chimney: standard 8DM pipe, or Hi-Temp 8HT stainless, which Canada requires along with a Cold Air Kit. Plan at least 14.5 feet from the base of the fireplace to the flue outlet (22 feet with two elbow sets, 50 feet maximum), a firestop at every floor penetration, and a listed round-top or chase termination 3 feet above the roof penetration. Send us your roof height and we will size the run with you.
Yes. The fireplace is approved for wood, for a vented gas log set listed to ANSI Z21.60 or Z21.84, and for a vent-free gas log heater listed to ANSI Z21.11.2 — the vent-free option requires the IHP hood (GA6050). A gas line knockout and conduit are built in for a 1/2" black iron line, run and leak-tested by a qualified installer. With a vented gas log, the damper must be removed or locked fully open.
Noncombustible floor protection extending at least 16" in front of the opening and 8" beyond each side — 52" x 16" for this fireplace — built from inorganic material meeting the manual's conductivity spec and finished in tile, slate, brick, stone or similar. A galvanized sheet-metal ember strip also runs under the fireplace's front edge. The firebox itself sits at 0" floor clearance; on carpet or tile it goes on a metal or wood panel of full width and depth.
Yes — it may be installed in an aftermarket, permanently located manufactured home (USA only) or mobile home where local codes allow, but never in a sleeping room of a mobile home. The structural integrity of the floor, wall and ceiling must be maintained, so have the installer check the framing plan first.
No — the fan and the variable-speed blower are optional kits, and the WCT2036's louvered circulating face is what makes it blower-ready. Wiring connections are made behind a cover plate on the side of the fireplace; the power-source wiring is not supplied, and only IHP fans and blowers keep the warranty intact.
Superior warrants the fireplace — 20 years limited on the body, firebox and ceramic glass — and The Torch Guys handles it for you: we register the appliance and, if you ever need to claim, we deal with the manufacturer on your behalf rather than handing you a phone number. Keep your invoice and the model number; we hold the rest on file.
