At 72 inches the question stops being whether the fireplace fits and starts being how much of it your finisher has to build. The Montigo Exemplar RP620 (RP620N natural gas / RP620L propane), a 72" single-sided power-assisted direct-vent gas fireplace, arrives dressed — porcelain firebox panels, the RSCRP620 screen and integral lighting are already in it, where the R-series arrives as a shell to be finished on site. 73-1/4" x 18-1/8" of flame, 75,000 BTU/h on natural gas (70,000 max on propane per the rating plate), into a 96" W x 55-1/2" H x 26" D framing cavity (rear vent). $19,909, with a 15-year firebox and burner warranty. Every Exemplar is power-vent designated: the Montigo power vent module and control box are required for operation, not optional.
Choose the RP620 if you want the 72" format without building half of it on site. Where the R-series arrives as a shell for your finisher to dress, this one shows up dressed: the porcelain firebox panel set, the RSCRP620 screen, integral lighting wired to your wall dimmer, and a steel stud kit with non-combustible wall board, all standard. Vent runs still reach 100 ft with up to six 90° elbows, terminated at the roof, an outside wall, flush, or inline.
It is not right if you cannot supply 120V power and the Montigo power vent — there is no non-powered configuration. It is a vented decorative gas appliance for indoor use and it must not be run on a thermostat switch, so pass if you want set-and-forget heat. There is no variable flame control on RP models. It is not approved for mobile or manufactured homes, and the cavity runs a full 26" deep — an inch and a quarter more than the R-series.
The RP620 frames at 96" W x 55-1/2" H x 26" D with a rear vent (52-1/2" H top vent) and sits on the floor with 0" clearance. Clearances run 15-1/4" above on rear vent (25-3/4" on top vent), 5-5/8" at the sides, 4-3/8" behind, and 2" to a mantel. Venting is 5" inner / 8" outer Montigo pipe, up to 100 ft with six 90° elbows. Fuel is natural gas (5.5" WC minimum inlet) or propane (11" WC); ignition is a Honeywell smart valve with hot-surface ignition. The power vent runs on 120V/60Hz at under 12 A, and the integral lights are wired by the installer to a wall switch or dimmer. The rating plate approves 0 to 4,500 ft.
The see-through R620ST shares this exact 73-1/4" x 18-1/8" glass size, shows it to two rooms, and runs 100,000 BTU/h input for $15,029 — but arrives as a shell you finish. The RP620’s $19,909 buys the finished interior: porcelain panels, screen, and lighting included, one viewing side. If sheer width matters more than finish, the 84" R720 is $13,759 and the 96" R820 is $15,459. All share the power-vent requirement.
The RP620 takes a 2" mantel clearance — unusually tight for the line. Heat still rises off 73 inches of glass, so keep combustible finishes inside the published clearances, and run anything you plan to mount on the wall above past your installer first.
5" inner / 8" outer Montigo direct-vent pipe, sold separately, plus the required Montigo power vent termination: roof (PVVEX58-300), exterior wall (PVHEX58-300), flush wall (PVHFL58-300), or inline (PVHIN58-300). Runs can reach 100 ft with up to six 90° elbows. Use Montigo components only: the RP620 is power-vent designated, and Montigo requires its own pipe on any power-vented installation.
No. The required power vent and the hot-surface ignition both run on 120V household power. If the power is out, the fireplace is out.
No. RP-series fireplaces are not a primary heat source and must not be operated on a thermostat switch. There is also no variable flame control on RP models — the flame is on or off.
Indoors, per the rating plate, at altitudes from 0 to 4,500 ft. It is not approved for mobile or manufactured homes. If you are planning a covered outdoor room, ask our team before you order — do not assume approval. For a true outdoor-certified Exemplar, look at the R324 STIO.
It can. Montigo’s published warranty excludes equipment “sold direct to the consumer via internet or auction websites” unless the seller is an authorized dealer, and it requires professional installation and annual service. The Torch Guys is 1 of only 3 authorized Montigo e-commerce dealers in the United States, so the full residential warranty applies to your RP620: 15 years on the firebox and main burner, 15 on venting, 10 on terminations, and 1 year on controls, electrical, media, glass, screens, and labor. Keep records of your install and annual service. If you ever need a claim, we file it on your behalf — call (410) 324-6322.
