About This Product

The Paragon DVCT40 from Montigo

The size most people land on once they have seen the 36 next to it. The Paragon DVCT40 (SKU DVCT40CBP95N) is a 40-inch single-sided direct vent gas fireplace rated up to 47,500 BTU on natural gas (45,000 on propane). Framing is 49-1/2" W x 55-1/2" H x 24" D, the glass viewing area is 36" W x 30-3/8" H, and the price is $6,555 with Montigo's residential fireplace warranty. Budget for two mandatory add-ons: a liner kit and a log set must be purchased and installed before the unit can operate.

Choose the DVCT40 if the 36 looks lost on your wall but the 50 would swallow the room. This is the size most living rooms land on, and its TruFlame burner system runs independently controlled front and rear burners set into a large ember bed — shut the rear burner off and the natural-gas flame turns down to a 15,000 BTU front-only fire.

It is not right if you want a finished price out of the box — the mandatory liner kit and log set are sold separately, and vent pipe is not included. It is not right if you need to vent out the rear (top-vent only), if your wall can't give up a 24" framing depth, if you plan a combustible surround (only non-combustible material may cover the face), or if there is no 120V power at the cavity.

Specifications

Frame a 49-1/2" W x 55-1/2" H x 24" D cavity. Clearances to combustibles: 0" at the back and floor, 2" at the sides, and 36" above the top of the unit; keep the opening at least 35" below the ceiling and 6" from a sidewall, and note the DVCT40 specifically requires a heat shield at the header during finishing. A mantel is allowed on a depth schedule — 2" deep at 12" above the opening, up to 12" deep at 22". Ignition is intermittent pilot (IPI) on the Proflame control with battery backup; the Proflame multifunction remote, battery holder, wall switch, batteries, and barrier screen ship in the box along with two accent light assemblies. Electrical service is 120V, 60Hz, 1 Amp. Gas pressure: natural gas 3.5" w.c. manifold (4.5" minimum supply); propane 10" w.c. manifold (10.8" minimum supply).

How the DVCT40 compares to the other Paragons

The DVCT40 ($6,555) is the middle single-sided size — $446 over the DVCT36 ($6,109) buys about 4 more inches of glass width and 7,500 more BTU. The DVCT50 ($8,955) steps up to 56,500 BTU and a 47-3/8" x 36-9/16" glass panel in a 58-1/2" wide cavity. Want this size visible from two rooms instead? The see-through DVCT40S is $9,525.

Answers to common questions

What’s included, what’s required, and what’s optional?
  • Included in the box: the fireplace, the Proflame multifunction remote, a battery holder, a wall switch, batteries, the barrier screen, and two accent light assemblies.
  • Required to complete the installation, purchased separately: the DVP40 liner kit and the LS40 log set — both must be installed before the unit can operate — and the vent pipe and termination.
  • Optional: the FBB21 variable-speed blower, the Forged Iron and Beveled trim kits (frames), Forged Iron inset panels, and andirons.
What venting does it use, and is it included?

No vent pipe is included. The DVCT40 uses 5" x 8" direct vent components, vents from the top only (it cannot be vented out the rear), and runs up to 40 ft vertically or 18 ft horizontally. Approved systems: Simpson DuraVent GS, American Metal Products, Selkirk Direct-Temp, Security Secure Vent, Excel DV, Empire's DVVK-5F flex kit, BDM, and Metal-Fab Sure Seal (adapter required). We stock DuraVent, so we can quote the fireplace and the vent run together.

What mantel clearance does it need?

On this model's schedule: a 2"-deep mantel can sit 12" above the opening, stepping up to 22" above the opening for a 12"-deep shelf. Note the DVCT40 specifically requires a heat shield at the header during finishing. Any material covering the fireplace face must be non-combustible — talk to our team before you frame the wall.

Will it light during a power outage?

Yes. The intermittent pilot (IPI) ignition has a battery backup, and the battery holder and batteries are included, so the fire and remote keep working through an outage. The optional blower needs household power and will not run.

Can it go in a bedroom or a manufactured home?

Yes to both. It is approved for bedrooms and bed-sitting rooms, and for aftermarket installation in a permanently located manufactured home or mobile home in the US, where local codes allow.

How do I order it for propane?

Choose the Propane option (+$97). It adds conversion kit 36884, the manufacturer's certified NG-to-LP kit for this exact model, and your installer performs the conversion during setup. On propane the maximum input is 45,000 BTU.

Is the warranty the same if I buy online?

Yes. The Torch Guys is 1 of only 3 authorized Montigo e-commerce dealers in the United States, so buying online here gets you the full Montigo residential fireplace warranty. If you ever need a claim, we file it on your behalf with the manufacturer — call (410) 324-6322 and we handle the paperwork.
