One firebox, two rooms, and the same fire in both. The Paragon DVCT40S (SKU DVCT40CSP95N) is a 40-inch see-through direct vent gas fireplace — one firebox, glass on both sides, rated up to 60,500 BTU on natural gas (55,000 on propane), the highest input in the Paragon line. Each side shows a 37-3/8" W x 31-1/2" H glass viewing area. Framing is 57-3/4" W x 59" H x 23-1/2" D. Price is $9,525 with Montigo's residential fireplace warranty, and two add-ons are mandatory: a liner kit and a log set must be purchased and installed before the unit can operate.
Choose the DVCT40S when the wall between two rooms is doing nothing but separating them. Put it between a living room and dining room, or frame it as a room divider — both are supported. The TruFlame burner system runs independently controlled front and rear burners in a large ember bed with a ceramic catalyst and an externally adjustable baffle, and both sides get the full flame view.
It is not right if you want a finished price out of the box — the mandatory liner kit and log set are sold separately, and vent pipe is not included. It is not right for a rear-vent plan (top-vent only, with a 24" minimum rise before the first elbow), for a single flat wall where a cheaper single-sided Paragon does the same job, for a combustible surround (only non-combustible material may cover the faces), or where there is no 120V power at the cavity.
Frame a 57-3/4" W x 59" H x 23-1/2" D cavity — with the outdoor kit, 58" W x 62" H x 25-1/2" D and a metal-stud header. Clearances to combustibles: 0" at the floor, 3" at the sides, 24" above the top of the unit; keep the opening at least 35" below the ceiling and 9" from a sidewall. A mantel is allowed on a depth schedule — 2" deep at 14" above the opening, up to 12" deep at 24". Ignition is intermittent pilot (IPI) with a battery back-up pack; the multifunction remote, battery holder, wall switch, batteries, and ember chunk assembly ship in the box. Electrical service is 120V, 60Hz, 1 Amp. Gas pressure: natural gas 3.5" w.c. manifold (4.5" minimum supply); propane 10" w.c. manifold (10.8" minimum supply).
The DVCT40S ($9,525) is the only two-sided Paragon and the strongest heater in the line at 60,500 BTU. If the fire only needs to face one room, the single-sided DVCT40 ($6,555) shares the 40-inch class for $2,970 less, the DVCT36 ($6,109) fits the smallest walls, and the DVCT50 ($8,955) puts the widest glass — 47-3/8" — on one face.
No vent pipe is included. The DVCT40S uses 5" x 8" direct vent components, vents from the top only (no rear venting), and runs up to 40 ft vertically or 18 ft horizontally — with a 24" minimum vertical rise before the first elbow, double the single-sided requirement. Approved systems: Simpson DuraVent GS, Selkirk Direct-Temp, Security Secure Vent, Excel DV, and Metal-Fab Sure Seal (adapter required). We stock DuraVent, so we can quote the fireplace and the vent run together.
Yes. Island and room-divider installations are supported: keep the horizontal vent run to 18 ft or less with at least 8 ft of vertical, and hold 6" between any perpendicular wall and the opening. Opening-to-sidewall clearance on this model is 9", and the opening must sit at least 35" below the ceiling.
On this model's schedule: a 2"-deep mantel can sit 14" above the opening, stepping up to 24" above the opening for a 12"-deep shelf. Any material covering the fireplace face must be non-combustible. Talk to our team before you frame the wall.
Ask our team first. A stainless outdoor kit (DFED409SS) is available, with its own framing and sealing requirements — framing depth grows to 25-1/2", height to 62", and the header must be metal studs — but it does not publish an outdoor-room certification statement. Call (410) 324-6322 and we'll confirm whether your covered-outdoor plan is supportable before you buy.
Yes. The intermittent pilot (IPI) ignition has a battery back-up pack, and batteries are included, so the fire keeps working through an outage.
Choose the Propane option (+$97). It adds conversion kit 40636, the manufacturer's certified NG-to-LP kit for this exact model, and your installer performs the conversion during setup. On propane the maximum input is 55,000 BTU.
