About This Product

Napoleon Tall Bay Luxuria 50" Direct Vent Gas Fireplace

The Napoleon Tall Bay Luxuria 50" is a direct vent gas fireplace that is open on three sides as a bay, or installs in a corner or single-sided, with Luminous Logs whose flames rise from the logs themselves over a modulating LED ember bed. It is rated 36,000 BTU/hr on natural gas, or 31,500 on propane with Napoleon's conversion kit, through a 56-1/8" by 20-7/8" view behind a Low E glass guard, with Dynamic Heat Control, a MIRRO-FLAME porcelain panel, Night Light top lights, a ProFlame II remote and the eFIRE phone app included — from $14,289 before the Luminous log kit you choose above. It vents through a 5" / 8" pipe off the top, frames 56-9/16" wide in an enclosure at least 88" tall, and carries Napoleon's President's Lifetime Limited Warranty.

Choose it if you want a tall fire that reads from three sides — a room divider bay, a corner, or a single wall — with logs that carry the flame themselves in Birch, Driftwood or Oak, and a TV or artwork above it without a mantel. It is approved for bedrooms and bathrooms and certified for mobile homes.

It is not right for you if you prefer a linear flame over a glass bed. The flames rise from the Luminous logs themselves, and the fire reads from three sides.

Specifications

The framed width is 56-9/16" — the fireplace at its outer screw heads — in an enclosure at least 88" tall from the base of the fireplace and no more than 10 ft; the flush and overhang framing layouts are on pages 43 and 44 of the installation manual. The fireplace itself is 56-1/8" wide, 51-13/16" high to the top of the vent collar and 20-1/4" deep, and it is not load-bearing. The enclosure is either left open at the top or given a front or rear air outlet of at least 80 sq. in. — the layouts, and where a TV or picture goes above, are on pages 22 to 25. Mantel heights are charted on page 47 and finishing requirements are on pages 45 and 46. No hearth is required. Keep furniture at least 48" from the front.

How the Tall Bay Luxuria 50" compares

The Tall Bay Luxuria 62" is the same fireplace in the other width, priced from $17,899; this model is from $14,289. The 50" is rated 36,000 BTU/hr with a 56-1/8" by 20-7/8" view and an 88" minimum enclosure, and the 62" 44,000 BTU/hr with a 68-1/8" by 20-7/8" view and a 93" enclosure.

Answers to common questions

What’s included, what’s required, and what’s optional?
  • Included in the box: Low E glass guard on the front and both sides; MIRRO-FLAME porcelain reflective panel; Dynamic Heat Control heat management; ProFlame II remote control and eFIRE phone-app controller; Modulating LED ember bed and Night Light top lights; Electronic pilot-on-demand ignition with a 4 AA battery-backup wall switch; Stainless steel gas flex connector with shut-off valve, wall firestop, vent shield and vent restrictor.
  • Required to complete the installation, purchased separately: Burning Display - one Luminous log kit in Birch, Driftwood or Oak, with its rocks, embers and glass media; the fireplace ships without logs; Venting - 5" / 8" direct vent pipe and a wall or roof termination sized for your run, rigid pipe or a power vent on propane (see pg 12 in the installation manual); ⚠ Propane installs require rigid vent pipe (if opting for flex pipe, a power vent is required); Enclosure - a framed enclosure at least 88" tall, open at the top or with a Dynamic Heat Control air outlet (see pg 22 in the installation manual); Electrical - a grounded 110 V supply, hard-wired to the fireplace; Gas Line - a 1/2" gas supply to the fireplace's shut-off valve.
  • Optional: The Corner Installation Kit for a corner installation (choose Corner Installation Kit above), a vertical or external wall venting package, heat management (Dynamic Heat Control Plus or Ducted Heat Management), the Blower Kit, a Dynamic Linear Trim for the air outlet, the Wall Mount Control and the Porcelain Reflective Ledge Installation Kit for a bay installation — the fireplace operates fully without any of them.
Can the Tall Bay Luxuria 50" go in a corner or against a single wall?

Yes. It is built open on three sides for a bay or room-divider installation, and it also installs two-sided in a corner or single-sided. For a corner, Napoleon's Corner Installation Kit (TLVX-CK) adds a side panel that closes one end of the firebox and fits either the left or the right side; choose Corner Installation Kit above and the kit is added to your order. The venting layout for a corner installation is on page 14 of the installation manual.

What venting does the Tall Bay Luxuria 50" need?

It is a direct vent fireplace on a 5" / 8" pipe off the top of the unit, run out through a wall or up through the roof, with up to 40 ft of vertical vent and at least 6 ft of rise in most installations. Use one brand throughout — Napoleon, Metal-Fab, BDM, Simpson Dura-Vent or Selkirk Direct Temp — and do not mix rigid and flexible pipe. A propane installation must use rigid pipe or a power vent. Napoleon's 5" / 8" wall terminals are the GD422R-2 round terminal and the ST58U-1 Silhouette, with roof kits for pitched and flat roofs and GD420 / GD430 flexible vent kits. The vent run and termination are ordered separately and sized to your installation (see pg 12 in the installation manual).

Can I mount a TV above it?

Yes — that is what the included Dynamic Heat Control is for. It carries heat out through an air outlet opening in the enclosure, so a TV, sound bar or artwork can go above the fireplace, positioned as drawn for your enclosure layout on pages 22 to 25 of the installation manual. Plan the air outlet with your installer before the wall is finished, and stay within your TV maker's own temperature limits.

Where can it be installed?

Indoors, including bedrooms, bathrooms and bed-sitting rooms, and it is certified for mobile and manufactured homes where local codes allow (secured in place). It is rated to 4,500 ft, with the input reduced above that. Keep furniture and other objects at least 48" from the front, and do not run it below freezing.

What gas and electrical connections does it need?

A 1/2" natural gas or propane line to the fireplace's flex connector and shut-off valve, connected and tested before the wall is finished — natural gas at 4.5" to 7" w.c. inlet pressure, propane at 11" to 13" w.c. It is hard-wired to a grounded 110 V supply, and the 4 AA battery wall switch keeps the fire turning on and off in a power outage. It ships for natural gas and converts to propane with Napoleon's kit W175-0862, fitted by a qualified installer.

Does buying online affect my Napoleon warranty?

No. The Torch Guys is an authorized Napoleon dealer, so the President's Lifetime Limited Warranty applies in full, and we file claims with Napoleon for you. The combustion chamber, burner, logs, embers, rocks, ceramic glass and porcelain parts are covered for as long as you own the fireplace — parts free for the first 10 years, then at half of retail; valves, remotes and other electrical parts and the labour are covered for the first year. Coverage starts on the installation date.

Warranty

In the unlikely event your product experiences a defect, our technical team will guide you through the manufacturer’s warranty process. Here is a general outline of what to expect.

Due to the technical nature of our products, the manufacturer must perform troubleshooting to process a warranty claim. Your installer will need to troubleshoot the problem on-site while working in tandem with our technical team. If troubleshooting leads to what The Torch Guys deems as a defective part, we will submit a warranty claim to the manufacturer on your behalf. Before we submit the claim, we will ask you to review the terms and confirm your consent to proceed.

Once the claim is submitted, the manufacturer will review it and either approve or deny it. If they have all the information and accept the claim, your warranty replacement part(s) will begin processing for shipment. If, for any reason, the claim is denied or we need more information, we will notify you as soon as possible.

All warranties are processed as exchanges. You can expect to receive a prepaid return label for the defective part(s), which must be returned within 30 days of receiving the warranty replacement(s).

Warranty claims can take anywhere from 1-4 weeks to process, depending on the season. Given the length of time claims can take, we recommend you fire up your unit in late summer/early fall to ensure your existing fireplace is in good working order for the winter season.
