The Napoleon Vector 38" is a linear direct vent gas fireplace with MIRRO-FLAME porcelain reflective panels, multi-colour LED ember lights, Night Light top lights, a ProFlame II remote and the eFIRE phone app included. It is rated 30,000 BTU/hr on natural gas, or 26,500 on propane with Napoleon's conversion kit, through a 40-3/4" by 18-5/8" view behind 5 mm ceramic glass and a black safety barrier screen — from $5,039 before the logs, glass or media you choose above. It vents through a 5" / 8" pipe off the top, frames 53-13/16" wide, and carries Napoleon's President's Lifetime Limited Warranty.
Choose it if you want a long, clean linear fire dressed your way — Standard Beach Fire or Birch logs, glass beads or glass embers in eleven colours, wrought iron globes, a Woodland kit or mineral rocks — with a remote and the eFIRE app to set the flame and the ember-bed colour. It is approved for bedrooms and bathrooms, so it suits a smaller room as well as a living room.
It is not right if you need a heater: Napoleon certifies the Vector as a decorative appliance, not a source of heat. It also needs logs, glass or a media kit before it can run, a 5" / 8" direct vent run, a hard-wired 110 V supply and a finished enclosure at least 73" tall, so it is a framed-in installation planned before the wall is finished, not a drop-in for an existing fireplace.
The framed opening is 53-13/16" wide and 20-1/8" deep, in an enclosure at least 73" tall from the base of the fireplace; the fireplace itself is 53-5/16" wide (57-5/16" across its flanges), 41-3/16" high and 19-7/8" deep. The face is finished in non-combustible material for 15-5/8" above the opening and 7" to either side, and finish next to the safety barrier (above the door and at the sides) may stand out no more than 4" unless the clearance to the sides and top grows 2" for every extra 1". Mantel heights by mantel depth are charted on page 56 of the installation manual. No hearth is required. Keep furniture at least 48" from the front.
The Vector 38" See-Through shows the fire on both sides and frames 16-3/16" deep, priced from $6,179; this model is from $5,039. In the other widths, the 50" from $5,729, the 62" from $9,169, the 74" from $11,459: across the line the 38" is rated 30,000 BTU/hr with a 40-3/4" view, the 50" 36,000 with 52-3/4", the 62" 42,000 with 64-3/4" and the 74" 48,000 with 76-3/4", all 18-5/8" tall.
It is a direct vent fireplace on a 5" / 8" pipe off the top of the unit. On natural gas it runs out through a wall or up through the roof, up to 20 ft horizontally and up to 40 ft vertically; on propane the horizontal run is shorter, up to 10 ft, and longer runs need a power vent. Use one brand throughout — Napoleon, Metal-Fab, BDM, Simpson Dura-Vent or Selkirk Direct Temp — and do not mix rigid and flexible pipe. Napoleon's 5" / 8" wall terminals are the GD422R-2 round terminal and the ST58U-1 Silhouette, with roof kits for pitched and flat roofs and GD420 / GD430 flexible vent kits. The vent run and termination are ordered separately and sized to your installation (see pg 14 in the installation manual).
Yes, with planning — add Napoleon's optional Dynamic Heat Control. It moves the heat away from the wall above the fireplace without a fan, so a TV, sound bar or artwork can go there, and it is installed with the fireplace rather than added after the wall is finished. Without it the wall above gets hot; the minimum TV clearances with a mantel are drawn on page 57 of the installation manual. Either way, stay within your TV maker's own temperature limits.
Indoors, including bedrooms, bathrooms and bed-sitting rooms, and it is certified for mobile and manufactured homes where local codes allow (secured in place). It is rated to 4,500 ft, with the input reduced above that. Keep furniture and other objects at least 48" from the front, and do not run it below freezing.
A 1/2" natural gas or propane line to the fireplace's flex connector and shut-off valve, connected and tested before the wall is finished — natural gas at 4.5" to 7" w.c. inlet pressure, propane at 11" to 13" w.c. It is hard-wired to a grounded 110 V supply, and the 4 AA battery wall switch keeps the fire turning on and off in a power outage. It ships for natural gas and converts to propane with Napoleon's kit W175-0642, fitted by a qualified installer.
No. The Torch Guys is an authorized Napoleon dealer, so the President's Lifetime Limited Warranty applies in full, and we file claims with Napoleon for you. The combustion chamber, burner, logs, embers, rocks, ceramic glass and porcelain parts are covered for as long as you own the fireplace — parts free for the first 10 years, then at half of retail; valves, remotes and other electrical parts and the labour are covered for the first year. Coverage starts on the installation date.
